AprilHappyChappy wrote: »Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had been on the day coach tours to the grand canyon. I've had a search but could not find anything recent?
4 of us are touring in September/October and have a car but wondered if we should book a $80 coach tour or drive ourselves?
Any advice would be great
If it were me, I would drive, stay overnight and head back early the next morning...that's what we did when we went and I know I keep saying it, but night at the GC, staying in one of the lodges at the rim was awesome. Though with 4 potential drivers (if all can and are willing to drive) it would be an easy enough day trip. It's a very straightforward route.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SeptemberThank you ferf, will have a look at accommodation. As you say with 4 of us all insured it will only be an hour and a bit if we did a bit each.
Seen some really bad reviews from some of these coach companies too so at least this way we can decide where/when we stop/eat etc.0 -
MayJust called Harrah's re applying the 10% off to my existing booking. It has to be done online so they couldn't do it.0

The Junior Suite we had was very nice and one of the better rooms in Vegas.
However, after a couple of days I soon got fed up of the walk to the strip. It was 15 mins along Harmon (we were in Tower 3) or 20-25 mins if we went through the MGM. Yes it is just a 5 min walk to the back of the MGM, then you have to walk allll the way through it.
Just me though as I haven't seen anyone else complain.
Agree with everything luci says.
When booking ask for tower 1, high strip view room....saves 5 mins.
Its good exercise staying there!!!illegitimi non carborundum0 -

i can only add my vote to THEhotel as its the only we stayed in last year and thought that what we got for the price we paid made it unbelievabley good
Loved Venetian.....assume Palazzo is similar/better.
Only thing about THEhotel is location......its stuck dahn sarf!!! Shame they didnt connect the MB/Tacky/Luxor monorail with the Aria/Monty monorail, and then up to Bellagio and Mirage......all MGM props so is defo possible.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
MayHas anyone else found Delta really expensive recently? We have $1200 ($600 each) in vouchers having taken a bump returning from Vegas last year. We want to fly from Manchester, not fussed about where we change (but only want to change once). Wanted to fly on 29th May for a week to take in the bank holiday weekend - flights coming in at $1200 each! We're quite flexible on dates really, but would like Saturday-Saturday if possible as it gets us a week away for a week of annual leave, without needing an extra day for flying.
I don't suppose anyone knows if the cost ever comes down?
Thanks in advance,
Rachel85There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

Bear in mind it took us over 6 hours to get there - though we did stop for breakfast and 2x other than that. We stayed at Thunderbird Lodge - it was simple (the bathroom was great though - very nice) but perfectly adequate for the night...it did have a fridge and possibly a microwave in the room. The food at the restaurants in the park is dire though...consider eating outside the park. Some have reported better availability on the rooms at the edge by calling - I think that cancellations get snapped up by phone pretty quick before they hit the website.
Not sure if it interests you, but you can drive part of the original Route 66 in that area...it was one of my FIL's favorite things from the trip - but he's mid-60s...and they still talk about our visit to the Snow Cap diner at the start of the stretch of Route 66 we drove on our way back to Vegas.

October , Novemberhi i have posted previously and have been trying to catch up on this thread.
i have been to a few travel agents to get a brief idea of what price to expect. there will be 4 adults travelling, trying to stick to a budget of £750 per person. there are no direct flights from belfast or dublin. so the deals we have got so far are:
flying from dublin to newark to las vegas, staying in luxor for 7 nights for £668 per person
same flight as above but staying 7 nights at mirage for £702 per person
flying from manchester direct to vegas, staying at excalibur for 7 nights £739 per person
we live in belfast, and can travel from any UK city( providing we can get to it from belfast) to keep the price down.
flying from Dublin is a lot easier as we can drive there, and dont mind a connecting flight from a US airport - 2 separate flights is the maximum we want as we dont want to lose any more time travelling
judging by reviews & opinions on here i dont think i want to go to excalibur but i am open to any other suggestions. any ideas of how much a suite would cost at the luxor? and is it possible for it to have 2 separate bedrooms?
we can travel from Mid October to around 10th December 2010, and would prefer 7 nights.
i would appreciate all advice & opinions & will now get back to catching up on this thread!0
