Good idea in principle Froggitt but we are quite keen to have the Friday and Saturday night in Vegas really.

Looks like you might be there over a holiday weekend so prices are high and Friday and Saturday nights are always double the week day rates anyway-so if you want a big weekend in Vegas then the trade off is higher prices or finding a cheaper hotel. If you want to be in the heart of the action then look at somewhere like Imperial Palace, Clean and decent -but not plush.

You might look at somewhere just off Strip like Hooters but if you're planning on spending most of your time mid Strip then taxi costs might outweigh the room cost savings.

You're basically trying to find good prices for a time that is like trying to find a cheap August bank holiday deal over here.

First of all thanks to everyone for this brilliant thread!!

Have a day on my own in Vegas before my friend arrives and wondered if anyone had any tips for fun things to do on your own? On a very tight budget!

    Thanks! x

If you like window shopping in themed areas with living statues, indoor thunder storms, amazing theming , errupting volcanos then head for the Venetian or Caesers. The lions at MGM are fun to watch for a bit. My favourite free thing to do in Vegas though is people watch. You see some amazing sights ;)

You must wander into Bellagio and see the Conservatory and watch the Bellagio fountains in front of the hotel. Both are free. You can then walk to Caesars next door for shopping or you have Paris across the street if you fancy a ride up the Eiffel Tower (this isn't free, but I think it's less than $10)......

The Bellagio fountains are a must (and free), so fab they are hard to describe, when you've seen them you'll know what I mean.

OK, I'm hiring an MPV to drive from the mgm grand to the grand canyon.

As part of the journey we're also wanting to briefly drive on Route 66 and have a quick stop at hoover dam and lake mead.

I've booked the car for 7am. As a pair of 25 year old party goers we're wanting to be back for around 10pm so we don't miss a night out in the party capital of the world!

Therefore we've weighed it up and are wanting to go to the West rim instead of the south rim. This is due to it being nearer, the fact that it'll be a big drive to the south rim and the fact that we want to go out at night.

I've looked at the map, and I think I'd rather tackle it by doing the lake mead, hoover dam and route 66 ventures on the way there, so all the stopping is doing in the morning / midday so we know how much time we can spend in the west rim.

    Here's the proposed outbound map:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=MGM+Grand+Hotel,+Las+Vegas,+Nevada,+USA&daddr=KINGMAN+airport,+Kingman,+AZ,+United+States+to:Grand+Canyon+Skywalk,+AZ,+United+States&geocode=FUzgJgIdFKci-SkF9to_y8XIgDEQ9ohSSiXFRA%3B%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=35.82004,-114.491272&sspn=1.311725,2.90863&ie=UTF8&ll=35.316806,-113.36792&spn=0.330004,0.727158&z=11

I selected Kingman as the route 66 turn off point and is seems the easiest to divert you back on the right road to take you North to the canyon. Is there much to do in kingman? Might get a bit to eat there if there is. Also, are there route 66 shops like in seligman?

Is a diversion for a quick 10 - 15 mins at the hoover dam and lake mead feasable?

    Thanks all.

Never been to west rim but others have said if you go to the Canyon it really should be the south rim, which is awesome.(better to stay overnight IMO though)

But if you do want to go to the west rim I think the last hour or so are on unmade roads so not sure if it is advisable to take a hire car on it, others will know more though

    Hi guys

Been a lurker on this forum for a while now in the hopes of picking up some tips and deals prior to my trip to celebrate my 30th with the lads in November. We fly out on the 10th with Virgin and are looking to stay somewhere from the 10th - 14th on strip, then head out to the Canyon for a night at the Red Feather Lodge and then back to Vegas for two nights before flying home.

Although there are a lot of deals about at the moment - I'm struggling to find anything for the first part of the trip. As it falls over the weekend the prices are fine for the first two nights and then sky rocket completely! We were hopeful of staying somewhere half decent but I'm struggling. Is it because I'm trying to book too early or am I just not looking in the right places?! Ideally we'd like to be down in the NYNY, MGM et al area but can't find any good deals.

Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you want to be in that area, why not try Tropicana or Excalibur, they both have recently refurbished rooms and are on the same junction, or for centre strip try the Imperial Palace

watpoae - I can't quote you as I don't have enough posts yet but I'm not sure you will be able to take your hire car to the west rim as you have to go along a non paved road. I'm sure hire cars have a clause in the contract that they cannot be used on non paved roads, I seem to remember that Dollar does so others probably do too. It may be worth checking that out before you finalise your plans.

    Hey Luci

Apologies - for example, the MGM deal posted above is coming out at $511 odd for a 2 queen room for the 4 nights. At £180 each per person that seems a lot when I hear of other deals people are finding on here. We are planning on employing the $20 sandwich trick if possible to secure an upgrade wherever we go but that's still pretty steep. I suppose I was just looking for advice on where people are finding deals rather than asking people to check deals on my behalf.

    Thanks.

It's not Thanksgiving that is affecting your rates as you are going 10-14 November and Thanksgiving is 25 November.

The $20 trick isn't usually well received at the MGM unfortunately so if you decide to stay there, be prepared to get the room you booked.

I agree with the suggestions of the Imperial Palace or Excalibur. Both would suit a group of guys as you won't be spending much time in the room.
