hey all , back from (mostly) sunny Spain . now have insomnia ( easy to get back into home routine of sleeping at weird times , and i have the pleasure of taking my parents to BHX at 4 am on saturday as well ) so just spent a hour reading all your posts and making myself envious about all you lucky people with trips to Vegas to enjoy .
had a nice basic holiday in Spain though . being lazy all day and then eating in + card school and board games every night has made a refreshing change .
glad to see extra flights for Vegas from Manchester again . but still won't be getting on a Virgin 747 again , unless they give me the seats . ( BTW Easyjet to Alicante is much more comfy that Virgins "premium 747 product" and yay , no seat recliners either . come on Easyjet Vegas is begging for a no frills flight )Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

Apriljust back from LA Today , we stayed in hollywood, a bit of dump really, dont think it is really worth a visit. went to universal one day, santa monica and venice beaches another day - cycling which was good fun and then to manhatten beach before our flight home which was very nice but apart from museums and other parks not much to do so wouldnt recommend unless you had something specific to go and see. This was the last part of our trip aftert las vegas and san diego.
Oh dear....got 4 days in LA next week (first visit) before heading to Vegas for 4 days looks like i should have spread the break more in favour of Vegas.I was thinking that four days wasnt going to be long enough for LA...not into the theme parks either....0 -

Last year our plan was 3 nights in LA, 11 nights in Vegas then 4 more back in LA.
It was also our first time to that part of the world so we thought there would be loads to do in LA and 11 nights in Vegas would be plenty.
On our arrival LA was grey and dull weather, and not sunny beach weather that the missus was hoping for. during our first couple of days we did Universal Studios for a day and the next day a hollywood bus tour and then spent the evening in Hollywood.
While in vegas we both had a moment of clarity and decided that we'd both prefer to stay in Vegas for 4 more days rather than go back to LA especially as those 4 days were planned for the beaches and it wasnt really beach weather.
We stayed just out of Hollywood and it is a bit moody, and not the nicest of places. Im sure there was lots of LA that is very nice and we didnt get to see but we both felt we'd have more fun staying in vegas the extra nights. Cost wise wasnt really too different. I lost about £30 cancelling the hotel in LA, but saved on the 4 days of car hire. Booked NYNY for 4 nights cheaper than the 4 nights in LA, then hired a car ($35) to drive from Vegas to LAX .0 -

MarchMust admit I agree
Apaert from Disney and Universal and the Walk of Fame there's little to see. We did enjoy the tour of the stars' houses-more to see the areas than any specific home-was nice to do in a convertible but other than that there was little to interest except the beach .Santa Monica is nice and I believe if you like SeaWorld type stuff or Legoland you could add San Diego but otherwise........better off in Vegas or heading up to SFO IMOI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
AprilMany years ago (late 80's) My parents brought back from LV sets of cancelled (by cutting a small hole in the cards) playing cards that were given out for free. They were nice to have and I still fondly remember playing with the Ceasars packs. Does anyone know if this still happens?0

Not saying I love LA, but there is plenty to do. The traffic can be bad in LA. Between LA and Anaheim during rush hours is also a right royal pain in the bum, but that’s LA.
Things we’ve done on past visits are:
Griffith Park Observatory (a must)
Venice Beach
Santa Monica Pier
Segway tour of Celebrity Homes and Rodeo Drive
Hollywood walk of fame
Paramount Studio Lot Tour
Pierce Bros Westwood Village Memorial Park (Cemetery of Marilyn Monroe, Donna Reed, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, Carroll O'Connor, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Don Knotts, Eddie Albert, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, George C. Scott, Burt Lancaster, Eve Arden, Carl Wilson, Eva Gabor and Truman Capote)
Universal Studios
Disneyland
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Knotts Berry Farm
If you like shopping there’s a Westfield Mall in Culver City. There is also Citadel Outlets just outside of LA, and if your willing to drive the massive Camarillo outlets are about an hour away.
Other things you can do (but we haven’t yet) include
La Brea Tar Pits
Petersen Automotive Museum
Getty Museum
Horseback riding up to the Hollywood sign
I love Vegas as much as everyone else, but it’s nice to mix things up a little. There are technically no real sights in Vegas other than the strip and downtown. Yes there’s the Grand Canyon, which is a 5-hour drive to the south rim. Closer to Vegas is Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston, but you wont find much else in the way of natural sights.0 -
December ( including Xmas and New Year )I am taking my wife & two kids (13) & (10) to LV in December (wifes 40th), looking at staying in one room. I am either looking at MGM or New York New York. Anyone got any comments on what would be the better for us or alternatives and what prices I should be paying for, for a 5 night stay.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.0
