    such a loss....there is no where on the Belmont Road to get groceries!! It's a big loss, even the people down in Sydenham walked up to that Tesco (since the Co-Op is so crap!) funny how a road can have 50 cafes/takeaways but nowhere to buy proper food!!
  • Wish I could afford to set up as an independent grocers!
    Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T

    Would be a great wee money earner along there.

    I know the lady who bought the newsagent further up said she had to close as Tesco took most of her business (papers/smokes etc) and also because she kept getting broken into so insurance was a nightmare.

    If she'd known Tesco was closing she could have branched out into food and done a good trade!

    The Mace is indeed underway next door to where Xtravision was (or maybe where it was can't remember!) on the corner opposite Secret Spa, same row as Gourmet Burger

    I passed the new Mace last night, looks like it is open.

    By the way, for any of the local residents, what do you think of Coffey's butchers. I think he's fairly good, monster sausages are nice!

  • Do we really need another Tesco??
    This loop Mill site on the Castlereagh Road is of great cultural & architectural importance & the longer the building is left in disrepair the more chance there is of Tesco being allowed to demolish it.
    Once its gone, its gone forever- don't let this happen.

    Might be a wee bit late there! The website is not exactly up tp date around 2007 I would think!
    ++STOP PRESS++LATEST NEWS++
    ++THE OWNERS OF THE MILL ARE IN THE PROCESS OF ISSUING NOTICES TO ALL OCCUPIERS TO VACATE THE SITE. THIS WILL GIVE VACANT POSSESION, AND WOULD ALLOW THE BUILDING TO BE DEMOLISHED. ++

    The occupiers are long gone, about 2 years ago

  • The mill went up in smoke during the summer too. Whilst it can be argued about heritage etc, there is no getting away from the fact that it was one great eyesore.
  • As far as I know the Architectural Heritage Service & other bodies are still trying to get the Mill saved & the campaign is still ongoing. I agree with you about the up to dateness of the website though! Still think it would be a shame to demolish the building. If it was restored it could be a fantastic asset to East Belfast like the Conway Mill in West Belfast. Still don't think another Tesco is whats required for the area!
