Sorry to see Tesco on Belmont Road is closing today.
Such a shame as it is the hub of the community. I cannot understand the decision for closing.
Good luck to all the staff from the store and also to other retailers in the area who will miss the flagship store.

There's something in the free Newsletter about this today. The landlord booted Tesco out (according to Tesco) in order to renovate and, presumably, make more money. They then changed their mind but Tesco wouldn't return.Stercus accidit0

Nightmare, I had no idea about this. What about the pensioners in the area. :mad:0

I heard that there is a new (big) Tesco planned to be built on the Castlereagh Road - opposite Proctors...anyone else heard this ??0

For years there has been talk of Asda going in there.0

Sadly neither would help the elderly folk who rely on Tescos on Belmont Road.
So we have next to no reliable buses up that road, no post office on Belmont Church Road and now no grocery store either? Perhaps we should all move somewhere else? I just don't get it.Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T0 -
Sorry - why on earth would you need a Post Office on the Belmont Church Road when it's a residential street? There is a Post Office on the Belmont Road -surely you walk to that one?0

Info on the street is that Tesco's is moving out of Connswater to the site opposite Proctors and Asda is moving into the site that Tesco's will leave in Connswater. I also heard that there are bats in the building that went on fire a while ago opposite Proctors, and they can't pull the building down until they leave due to them being protected by law.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

if they move into the Proctors site what does that mean for Tesco Cregagh? given its aboutthe same size as Belmont was, and it'd be within 2 mins car wise of the Proctors site
