  • Guess that was my mistake then, using on of those sealed tins from poundland, they hold £500 in £1 coins, so not sure how many £2 coins it holds...

Anyhow, looks like I'll be waiting a while to open it... :p

Mine are in one of those terramundi pots - got to break it to get at them. (I've tried the "dinner knife through the slot" routine, but they'd no longer be legal tender by the time I'd got them all out!).

I did think about breaking it open when I got to £200 but decided against it. I reckon it will hold about £400 in £2 coins, so I've a way to go yet.
  • I wish that I'd counted how many coins I've put in, but I didn't and now I have no idea how many there are!

Do you get assigned numbers for this?

IMPWP - I use one of those tins too - my sister saved all her £2 coins in one when she worked in a pub and had a shade under £1k when she opened it up. So am hoping mine will be a similar amount too.

(I also have an empty sealed tin which a while back I weighed, weighed that day's haul of coins worked out the average weight of a £2 coin, then weighed the tin I'm filling to try and work out roughly how much I have in it :o)

Ha ha ha that is exactly the type of thing that I would do, weigh the tin :rotfl:

Just under 1k?! That would be great, did she wait until it was completely full before opening it?

Yup we opened it at home, it was completely filled. Am actually thinking about going reweighing it all as I've a couple of coins to add from yesterday and my handbag's still downstairs...

Can't reweigh it as my tin now weighs over 2kg.
But the empty one weighs 109g
Two £2 coins weigh 24g or 12g each.

So in theory my tin as at least 157 coins in it assuming 2kg=2000g= (157x12)+109

She used it to pay off a loan she took out to go on holiday I think.

If mine has a similar amount in when I open mine I'll be saving it.
