I get an error saying'
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or HD controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Is this at Safe Mode with CP?

Hi There
Do you have a Windows XP Home CD
Regards0 -
What is the make/model of PC, there may be other recovery options.
You also need to be careful of your data - is it backed up - as a lot of recovery procedures will wipe your hard drive.0 -
Difficult if you cannot get into Safe Mode with CP and you have no XP CD
XP recovery console with following should bring it up: chkdsk /p/r
Try the same with UBCD and select Hard disk tools > diagnostic tools

Well I'm running the bitedefender scan and so far 3 infected items have come up so fingers crossed.0 -
