Asda are about to launch a wedding range so may be a dress from the bridesmaid type thing that would do?

BHS have some nice ones at a reasonable price online......so we will try there soon.

Result on the skis, though, it turns out that the coach's daughter needs the size that DS is outgrowing, and the coach has a pair of his own that are right size for DS which he has spare. So he has offered me a straight swap. Big result, and one I am very very grateful for.

Well after what has been a rough week for you glad you had some good news on the skis! Big result!

Hope you manage to find the right prom dress at a reasonable price!

Most of all - hope you start sleeping better soon. Dunelm do some really nice kind of soft mattress protectors that are probably cheaper than a mattress topper but do add a layer of comfort. Some of them are an inch thick.... Just a thought!

Argh the school prom. My two are not getting new dresses. They will have to do the usual charity shop creativity thing.

Re: Prom Dresses Hypno, can you sew, or do you know anyone that would make her one? Paying to have one made is never cheap, but if you could do it yourself......

Just leaf through some fashion mags, pick a style, fabric and a pattern and bingo! An individual prom dress :)

..........or customise a cheaper one. When my sister got married, MSE Mum and I bought 2 black strapless dresses in the Coast sale and my Mum (never one to miss a bargain) made a cream silk bow/strap to turn them into asymmetric dresses - they looked fab.

Alternatively, you could add contrast ribbon around the waist (or to one side of a strapless dress for that matter) and fasten with a corsage to one side??? Very Carrie Bradshaw :)

I have made my fair share of cocktail dresses in my time.......and DD has a sewing machine, but the truth is that I have no desire to do so now. It is one of those things that you have to put your heart into, and I wouldn't do it justice - not paying attention to detail etc.

We are keeping our eyes open on ebay and the charity shops, but size 6 is not readily available (oh to ever have that problem myself!) so I fear we will end up paying full price. But, as I say, if we can get one that will do several parties of the right ilk this year, then we will get our monies worth and will then put it on ebay for the next batch of prom attendees next year!

Now, if only I could slim into a size 6 myself, I could borrow it for the office Christmas party. Whaddya think my chances are :rotfl:

Fair enough, I can see why that is not appealing right now - pity I don't live nearer - I'd love to make one!

As for slimming - I am really the wrong person to ask about that right now :o
