I'm back......I've been to stay with some very good friends - I got a bus to theirs (they live a couple of hours away) straight after work last night, and they dropped me off at home about half an hour ago. Perfect company, as always.....they are very special people.

OH went to get the children and they arrived home full of tales of fun and frolicks about five mins after I did. Needless to say, they have had an amazing time.

Everyone is tired, though, so an early night for all I reckon.

I hope you are all having a good weekend x

So happy to hear you had a good time last night. Also pleased to hear that you did not have to do the Heathrow trip.:) :T Enjoy the rest of your weekend with the kids.:A

    Love

It is lovely to have them back - I needed the time without them, but at the same time, I have missed them more this week than I would normally do.

Two more days to get through until payday........I think I am down to my last £20 so have calculated things just about perfectly. I have got car insurance due in March, which messes up next month's figures a little bit, but at least I have not gone over on any of the budgets this month so I am not starting on the back foot, which is encouraging.

But £20 is not enough to get over comfortable with, so I need to ensure I am cutting back where I can to try and create a bit more of a buffer. Getting my calculator and pen/paper out seems to be an ever increasing time consuming pastime of mine - I am becoming more obsessed with "managing the finances" than ever before as I cannot, simply cannot, afford to get it wrong!

  • I just got a car insurance reminder  I had got down the wrong month so that messes up my pretty little budget.

I am currently obsessed with my "spending diary" spreadsheet and just sit looking at it and how clever it is :rotfl: Yes things are that bad.....

Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons, and you're not just clamping down on an area of your life you *can* control to try to make up for those areas you can not.

I know what you mean, Z.....but it is a case of needing to do it, not just wanting to control something. I am coming to the end of my financial month with £20 to cover the last bits of groceries /petrol/bus fare.....but if I have missed something, or forgotten to add something into the calculations, or I have to do an unexpected trip to my Nana's which results in an extra tankful of petrol, then I suddenly find myself either having to borrow money, which I then need to repay, or incurring a bank charge, which can then spiral quickly into more charges, and more problems.

If I can keep a tight rein on the finances at this stage, it means that my head is not in the sand over money, and I can be confident that at least one thing is as it should be.

It also means I don't get carried away trying to help me and the children *feel better* by spending - it is easy to think that we can take our mind of things by going shopping for nice things, or having a takeaway, booking a trip to the theatre etc.....spending is not going to help in the longer term, so I must ensure that I don't get into that bad habit at this very early stage.

Hope that makes sense......the other thing is that in the past I have used food as the thing I could control......at least controlling the finances is healthier than bingeing and purging.....
