Good luck with your store cupboard challenge, I had to do that before we left and it worked well, I've also been doing a cosmetics/toiletries/cleaning products one, it's amazing what you find in the back of drawers and cupboards

Surfbabe - you are my friend now!
Pickle, I don't tend to over buy toiletries - mainly relying on what other people give to us. But that in itself means that we get things that will not get used, so from time to time I just have a clear out of half finished bottles of things that I don't really like.
I am very pleased with myself because I have just decluttered two black bin bags of general rubbish from the garage......making the very narrow and life-threatening run to the tumble drier just a little less dangerous! We're probably at least in year 2 of not buying unless essential already
The only difficult time was when you're invited to a Virgin Vie party, and then I had to make polite excuses. But because of that I ended up talking to a friend about my 'store' and she ended up with a goody bag from my store, so it saved her money too
The cosmetic/toiletries store has dramatically reduced, but still a way to go. Oh, lots of it was posh accumulated hotel freebies.0 -

To be fair, this is already my second year, but it's nice to keep focused...I can't believe how many body moisturisers I have got. I wouldn't mind, but I never even bought the vast majority of them in the first place! (Not that I'm ungrateful for presents, but I made a point a few years ago of explaining how out of control things had got and asking people specifically not to buy me such things as it's just a waste of money cos I won't get round to using them for literally years.)

Hypno, I'm yet another lurker I'm afraid! I've decided 2010 is the year for coming out of hiding though so watch this space! I just wanted to wish you a happy new year and I hope that you have the great year you deserve and please, please, please schedule in the 'me' time you mentioned on page 1!Current debt:
Family £3,000.00 Overdraft £1,550

Canda, nice to see you out of hiding, and happy new year to you too!
As for the "me time" - I am very very pleased that I have had these few days off - although I still get up early, and sleep is not as good as I might like, I really do start to feel as though I am getting back into balance a bit (especially with it coming on top of my recent holiday). I therefore need to capitalise on that and maintain that balance when I return to work on Monday - that is when the "me time" will be put to the test, especially as I will be wanting to continue with flylady at the same time
So, I don't think it is always going to be a case of "me time", but often a case of just saying "no" to some things, and not taking on too much. It will also involve the decision not to get stressed about things - some "grounding" will need to go on throughout the days in order that I don't absorb too much pressure/stress/negativity which in turn will hopefully leave me with sufficient head space and energy to do whatever else I need to do.
I need also to learn not to take certain things personally, and not to let certain things (and occasionally certain people) bother me - this might involve me having to do some sort of visualisation work on a deeper level, but it is all part of thinking about "ME" in a holistic way.
It might take some getting used to, but I am determined to get it right!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi Hypno, glad you're enjoying the first day of the New You!
Flylady does has the mantra of "You can do anything in 15 minutes". She says do something for 15, then have a break, make a drink, paint your nails, read a magazine or just daydream for 15 minutes - babysteps. That way it doesn't become overwhelming.
I think "Me Time" is a habit which needs to be developed in the same way as scratchies and flying....As you say, the test will be next week and those that follow and saying "no" is probably key. Good Luck :A0 -
Its a case of whether there are enough 15 minutes in a day, macgirl! I suppose I have to try and get it so that each entry on the flylady list takes me no more than 15 mins.......hmm.....perhaps not quite yet, but certainly something I can work towards!
Out of today's list, I just have the 15 mins filing/shredding to do, and to wash the cat's bedding.......then I can proudly say I have done the whole week's worth of tasks :T
You are right about having to develop the habit of me time......definitely something to be worked on, and not to expect miracles overnight!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Me time is incredibly important
I start to feel life isn't worth living if I don't make time for me - simple things like an uninterrupted coffee, time to write with a journal, reading a book, seeing a friend. I love gardening but can't remember when I last did it
When I read your diary - you are so driven and accomplish so much for you and the kids and it is amazing and fantastic. You also give up lots of your time to support others which is also fab. We now need you to role model "me time" LOLAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
