how have i done that you ask???? well....
i have TOTALLY avoided the shops and haven't spent a penny, thus saving me ALOT of money...can't say it's been easy, but i feel really good now!, was very very tempted yesterday as OH away and i saw a fab cardigan on a friend who got it in the sales, but i resisted and feel good today......:j:j:j onwards and upwards.
Hypno - I would be tempted to spend the £1K on a motorbike rather than a car - altho we once bought a car for about £800 while awaiting an insurance payout and sold it a few weeks later for the same amount despite the fact it was pouring oil out! :rotfl:Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

That's a good idea, dumpy - I will give that a go! And come out of lurkdom more often!!
I'm so in awe of you lot and feel a bit guilty being here as I've not actually got debt other than the mortgage.
I lurk partly to get ideas as I'm really a MFW and if it wasn't for the thousands (yup thats plural and over 10) my ex had off me (the one who thought that bills were optional..) I'd be mortgage free by now... and I'm determined to do it as fast as possible.
The other reason I lurk is that you all sound so fab and friendly I love reading what you are all up to. I'm here mentally waving the pompoms, everytime something gets paid off.
I'm drifting off to sleep with Pride and Prejudice in my ears at the moment, nothing like semi-conciousness thinking about Mr Darcy.....:o
One tip don't get the abridged books if they are ones you know, I find them very irritating. Also don't go for detective / mysteries. If you drop off you lose the plot!0 -
You have to have lost the plot to be on this thread!!!

Very long term lurker raising her head here.... waves sheepishly
If I have trouble sleeping (and I did when I was bullied at work, rasied a grievence against my boss and lived with someone who thought that bills were optional, stress levels were high) I listen to talking books.
I have a very old walkman (very MSE!) which I plug into and by concentrating on the story I tend to drift off to sleep as it takes my mind off the worry rollercoaster. Somedays I hear more of the story than others!
I loop one of the ear pieces over the bed head so I don't garotte myself in the night.
You can borrow the books from the library if you want to give it a go?
back to lurkdom.....
I was going to suggest something similar Dumpy.
I suffered from sleepless nights for 3 years solid with DD2 (had she been DD1 - there would BE no DD2!).
The lack of sleep and pregnancy hormones led to severe anxiety and in the dead of night it was 10 times worse - then I couldn't get back to sleep.
I eventually started listening to relaxation tapes that lulled me to sleep - I never got to the end of one! :rotfl:
Switching off the mind is definitely key.0 -

I recommend Gordon Ransey's autobiography for sending me to sleep. I tried to listen to it on the plane back from Canada last year - I never got past the footballing bit when he young! I was trying to listen to it but kept falling asleep and having to start it again / try and work out where I got to!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
