Hypno for what its worth I think you are doing the right thing not increasing the debt if you can help it. If you have to then at least you can now get low apr but good for you for not jumping straight to getting more debt without careful consideration.
We have had cars in the past that were only around the 1000 mark when that was how times were and we had one in particular that was excellent and very reliable. Luckily we had someone who could check the car over before purchase so obviously that helps.
Good luck with your decisions.0 -
But that's all I have, unless I borrow more.....
Anyway, we will manage for as long as we can.
Monday morning - need to make a real effort to not let tiredness get to me.....but first, banking scratching and coffee.
Have a good day, everyone x
I replied to this just as the forum closed for maintenance
Anyway, I apologised for sounding flippant, but I guess I was considering your ability to magic funds out of nowhere
Plus it is sometimes false economy to spend less on a car which might cost you £100's to repair (then again newer models can also cost....). There have been many times when OH especially, has spent £700 getting a car fixed which was only worth £700, but we didn't have a few 1,000 to buy another.
I agree that adding to your debt is a bad idea, but it depends how much you rely on the car. If you do, then it becomes a necessary debt akin to a mortgage.
You'll probably come on tomorrow and say you've just won one :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks KM, we've decided we won't be spending the money right now. We can manage - we've done so before, and will do so again!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

oops, macgirl, we posted at the same time!
We don't know much about cars etc, so would be reliant on someone else to spot flaws.....right now it isn't right to spend the money, and risk it being a bad move.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. You are right as always. I know I have much to learn on the path to debt freedom0

Hope the weather improves if you are car sharing as I take it it'll mean more reliance on public transport.
Hopefully it won't be too long and you can get more transport which is both affordable and reliable.

we've actually been car sharing for about 18 months now - the bike is really not used as often as it was intended. We are lucky to have a reasonable bus service to cover work hours etc, so it is only the skiing, and OH late night shifts after the buses stop that cause us any problems, which we have always managed somehow to work around!
The weather has been quite mild these last couple of days in comparison to previous weeks......which makes the paper rounds in the mornings a lot easier, if nothing else!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I think if you can manage without the car then it's worth a try. We are canvassing the idea of not having the MOT/Tax on our older car and seeing if we can manage. I get the train to work everyday and really don't use it during the day I work from home - I can simply walk - amazingly something I learnt during the snow - I CAN WALK!! Wow!!
The only concern we have is the weekends as we tend to do our own thing for part of it and so we both need cars. Will have an experiment and see what happens1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

I don't suppose our car is worth even £1000, (or even £100??) but we're hanging on to it. We've had it from new, 1998 I think and it's very reliable. But buying a second hand car, which is what we'll do when we have to get another, is always scary.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420
