Hmm...What on earth can i do

Options
Hello all.

As you can see this is my very first post after looking on this site for many months,so here is my problem and i hope that someone can help me out.

Sony playstation 3 40gb model,Yellow light of death.

This happened on Christmas day,and although the Unit is two years old and therefore out of warranty i firmly believe that it has packed up due to an inherant fault,we paid cash for the unit and i know there is the sale of goods act that says that even though it is out of warranty we can still do something about it.

My problem is that the unit was purchased from Zavvi, which has now closed down due to Liquidation/Bankruptcy,i know that Sony are not very forthcoming in giving replacements without the need to hand over over £100.00,so my question to you all is

Am i up a creek without a paddle.

Thankyou all.

No but it will mean court and an engineers report with sony. Find a local repair shop, its a simple 30 min fix that a shop near me charges £25 for. Id do that just to negate the hassle of paying more for a report, then more for court, then travel, then claiming it. Ok so you dont lose out on money but you will skip a day of work most likely losing you more money than it costs just to repair at a local shop.

If you still want to claim on principle then go to consumer directs website and research the sale of goods act.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

out of warranty within reason yes, 2 years old no, so in answer to your question yes your up the creek im afraid to say you have absolutley no recourse whatsoever either under the sale of goods act as zavvi no longer exist and sony certainly wont roll over to it theyll say its down to zavvi.

sorry just read it was from zavvi, get it repaired at your own cost.

It would be up to you to prove that there was an inherent fault, which as others have said would be time consuming and expensive, and ultimately worthless because Zavvi have gone. Just fork out for the repair.

Missed the obvious one.... Was it purchased using a credit card? If so, you have the same rights against the card issuer as you would have had against Zavvi pursuant to s.75 Consumer Credit Act 1974.

In anycase 'we paid cash for the unit' would put a stop to any course of action, against the card company. Although this really would have been a long long long shot anyway!!

Not really. I would be very confident to win the claim. A PS3 should last longer than 2 years.

Heads or Tails? That is how I see this one. Okay maybe it should last more than 2 years - buy why last this long if it had an inherent fault?? Has it been dropped? Liquid spilt in it? When I was in Tech Support some time ago now, there was even a case of a dog peeing on on a modem?? Not aiming this at OP but just a thought about a few faults that can cause faults to occur 2 years on!!
