We have 2 MacBook Pros - one is just over a year old and the other is about three years old now. The iMac is just over a year old, too. They've all be working fine with AOL until recently.

I'm looking into changing to another provider but one of the problems is that I can't access the web pages I need to check them out. Frustrating!

When things return to normal (whatever that is!) after the Christmas / New Year break I think we are going to try to get someone in to help.

    Sorry you've had problems, too.

Mine were more the issues of the new MacBook pro's just not liking netgear routers. It's sorted now anyway and DS's new Pro connected straight away without the problems I had :p

I recall AOL being iffy earlier in the year when some sites would load fine but others I just couldn't access. It lasted for about a week before it was finally fixed.

    O2 here I come I think :D

O2 cover the whole country. But only some exchanges are available on LLU. Just got to https://www.samknows.co, then exchange search, LLU Operator presence. Do not sign up for O2 if all you can get is the Access package (non-LLU).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Many thanks for that. Yes, my exchange is on the list!! What does LLU mean? I'm a bit confused, though, as it looks like I can't get wireless coverage. Why would that be? I'm on wireless now

    Google "Local Loop Unbundling".

Unfortunately, "Assoles On Line" does seem to have frequent problems, even with Windows users. I'd recommend going with one of the smaller ISPs that provides real customer service. I use "Internet Central", which ain't the cheapest but they provide a good service and good support. Ring their tech help line during the working week and they always answer within 3 rings.

You'll need to get your "MAC" number* from AOL. (Nothing to do with "Mac" as in Apple.) This can be a real hassle. I recommend doing it by letter.

'Wireless' is refering to mobile internet in this context, not to your home wi-fi network. If you can get O2 LLU (not clear if that's what you mean by 'on the list'), that's probably your best option, with £75 Quidco cashback and the O2 mobile discount, it will cost you £15 for the whole first year.

Thanks for this. I haven't heard of Internet Central so I'll look into them. Tomorrow I shall write to obtain my MAC code from AOL.

Thanks for explaining the 'wireless' bit to me!

O2 is listed as available in my area as Be (unlimited). I was a bit surprised because there is absolutely no O2 mobile coverage here - because I really, really wanted an iPhone!!!!

Sadly Quidco is one of the sites I am unable to access while I've got this AOL problem so would miss out on the cashback. It's the same with some of the other cash back sites I use, too.

Many thanks for all your help - I'll let you know what happens next!

There is no geographical connection between O2's mobile phone network and their ADSL-based broadband coverage.
PS: the iPhone will shortly be available on Orange and Vodafone.
