I am having a big problem with AOL and my Macs. I have been with AOL for about 15 years and not had any problems but for the last month I have been unable to download many pages. Some are secure sites (although some work okay) and many others which will not fully load or progress to the next page.
I have phoned the AOL help line (!!) several times and have been totally unable to understand their (very different each time) solutions. The router is fine (Netgear) - it has been checked and reset etc. The man who checked it is not very conversant with Macs though.
I don't know where to go from here. Quite honestly I would like to change supplier but don't understand how to go about it or even know who would be good with Macs.
If anyone has any suggestions I should be more than grateful - oh, perhaps I should add that I am a technically thick (although you'd probably worked that out already!!)

It might just be AOL. Having the same probs here. Also it keeps logging me out of sites and at times (like this morning) it simply wont let me sign on even though my wireless internet coonection is working. The service is very poor just now.0

Thanks for your reply. Do you think it will 'just get better' in time?0

Do you log on through safari? That's what I do and then I have AOL as my homepage so I can just log in to my e-mail. I've been with AOL for ten years, had my MAC for two years almost, not many problems internet wise (and I LOVE my MAC!) but I have had to call AOL twice this week as all of a sudden my internet would stop working and it would say my password was not authorised, then they had to guide me through changing my username and password for my router!0

Why are you convinced it's a Mac problem? I would borrow a Windows laptop and see if the same problem occurs on that as a starting point. Then try a different browser.
Mac and AOL should work fine together but AOL will not 'officially' give tech support for OSX.No free lunch, and no free laptop 0 0

Yes, I do the same - log on through Safari etc. It's only the last few weeks that I've had this problem. I love my Mac, too!0

I'm more convinced that it is AOL's problem but one of their 'advisers' said it was more likely to be a Mac problem. We have three in the house so I really don't think that they would all develop the same AOL problem. It's all worked very well until recently.
I have tried using Explorer via Parallels and have the same problem. Next I will try using another browser as you suggest.0

Just to say, we have 2 MacBook Pro's, 1 MacBook and 2 PC's in our home and all connect fine through AOL and a netgear router.
Can I ask, is this one of the new MacBook pro's you are trying to connect? Only I had a hell of a job getting mine to work on my netgear at first, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
AOL are pretty crap anyway and I'm looking to change providers, but I'm 99% certain its not a Mac problem.0

We have 2 MacBook Pros - one is just over a year old and the other is about three years old now. The iMac is just over a year old, too. They've all be working fine with AOL until recently.
I'm looking into changing to another provider but one of the problems is that I can't access the web pages I need to check them out. Frustrating!
When things return to normal (whatever that is!) after the Christmas / New Year break I think we are going to try to get someone in to help.
 Sorry you've had problems, too.0
