I think that Ray Bolger's comment in the article (which you seem to have completed missed Graham), is perhaps the most interesting...
"There will be a difference between the various indices, but I think the Nationwide will show a 4% rise next year and the Land Registry, which lags behind it, a 9% rise, catching up on some of the increase recorded by the Nationwide this year,"
I only hope his track record in predicting house price movements are more accurate than Jonboy Davis (of HPC) and Capital Economics.
How we enjoyed the April 2007 Capital Economics howler:

I haven't missed it, I simply didn't quote it.
If I had quoted everything to post would have been huge!0 -

Jonathon Davis is the former official spokesman for HPC.
Apparently he STR-ed in 2002!!!!!
His predictions for 2009 were hopelessly wrong.
SOunds like wishful thinking rather than any resemblance to reality.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Yes, there is one site that has been pretty consistently right throughout the crisis.

I note they are now predicting +18% YoY shortly.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

The redline is the prediction, the blue line is actual.
The red line is generated 6 months before the blue line.
As you can see, it has been spectacularly successful.

Ok, I'm a little confused by the blue line.
And if it's 6 months in advance, howcome the blue line is lined up with the red line?
Should the red line not be in 2010 by now?0 -
