    Hello all,

I just wanted to add to this thread. 10 days ago I couldn't crochet but I bought the 'art of crochet' mag to learn, I found the magazine awful and just couldn't get it and almost gave up. Then someone recommended me Stitch n !!!!! the Happy Hooker book (under 7 from amazon) and it is amazing, in 1 week I have gone from rubbish to being able to crochet, read patterns, I have made a lip balm holder, a purse and I am 25% through my first clutch bag.
I would totally recommend that book, don't bother with the mag. Also it is more MSE as it is cheaper than the sub to the mag.

    Hope that helps

Well done saveumcowboy (love the name lol) I gave my mag to a MSEer on here as I could not get on with it.
I just tend to stick with the granny squares at the mo as I need to finish a blanket I started 3 months ago :o.

I want to try the ripple blanket next that MrsTine kindly put on here (P16).

I have so many ideas and little time at the mo but I find crocheting relaxing :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

    Hiya

Skarloey - I would love to see photos of your stars and snowflakes. I saw some snowflakes yesterday as I was looking at stuff to crochet and I just thought no way will I ever do that!

Saveumcowboy - you have done really well. I can only read patterns for sc. If it says anything else I dont have a clue!!! :p Can we see photos please?

My finger is better (yay :T) and I spent yesterday evening looking for new projects. So far I want to make a bookmark for my dads birthday (next month so no hurry), a flying pig (for me) and a few other bookmarks for other people. Also the egg covers to put on cream eggs for easter presents (about 15 should do ), a crochet animal rattle (just found out my sister is pregnant) and I saw a butterfly and flower mobile which would be cute for the baby as well and about 100 other animals plus ds1 is still [STRIKE]nagging[/STRIKE] asking for a balaclava. Think thats all!! :rotfl:

My squares are building up nicely now so opefully it wont be long before I can put the fleece back on it (hopefully before summer lol) and can then show eveyone on here :)

You might find if you keep crocheting that you get harder skin on that part of you finger that was hurting on you. A bit like the fingertips on a guitar player they go harder from plucking the strings.

Well my finger is now a bit sore again. I think I will put on a plaster or bandage next time, I dont want it sore or hard skin. :(

Anyway, I tried to follow a pattern to do a cat bookmark and gave up. Then I tried to follow the pattern to do a chick bookmark and gave up on that so I then just did what I thought and produced this!

Not as good as the one I was trying to make but I didnt use a pattern so I think I did quite well there!

I really need to learn how to read patterns. Gonna have to go to the library again with a list of books I want!

Hart44 - thanks. So how many squares have you got now? Are you attaching each one or just have a pile of squares?

Greenpixey - whats your latest creation?

That's great to hear! I am waiting for my Happy Hooker to arrive - I am hoping it will be waiting for me when I go into work tomorrow. I had a flick through in Hobbycraft at the weekend and it looks really good. I can't wait to get my copy so I can get cracking :j

  • I think I *may* have finally cracked granny squares! I did one last night that actually looked a little bit like a square. One corner was a bit wonky but I know what I did wrong.

I do hope so because I'd love to make a nice throw for our bedroom :D
