Yup same here, and complaints department never heard of electron being phased out.

I'm closing my account as soon as.

I was sick of having an Abbey Visa Electron card. I actually went in branch after the first May Bank Holiday because the nimrods placed a sticky referral on my card after I used it on Paypal (despite using it on there many times before for eBay purchases). I actually went in on the Saturday morning and the dipstick in branch said there was nothing wrong but when I went to get some cash out at 3.55pm that afternoon my card declined and alas when I tried to get there before they closed at 4pm they were already shut! It's only agood fortune that I had some cash otherwise I would've been in the mire that holiday weekend!

Anyways, at the same time they sorted out the sticky referral (after I had to give details of my previous month's financial life) I asked for a new Visa Debit card. It never came. I went in branch last week and asked for a replacement card. They said they could do so... but they'd have to block my card for four working days (despite there being nothing wrong with the card). So I left it until I emptied my account and requested a card via my online banking.

This morning I received a new card. It was an unembossed Santander Visa... ELECTRON! I was pretty livid to say the least. They're obviously not telling the truth about their stance concerning Visa Electron.

After I cooled down I took my last bank statement and passport to NatWest and opened a Step Account. I've got my new sort code and account number and they guy in branch was everso helpful (unlike Santander!) so I'm looking forward to my banking future with NatWest. :) I know the Visa Debit card with them does have some restrictions (as it's replaced Solo - you can't use it at Pay @ Pump though I don't drive) but considering I want to shop online at more places and I do go to Canada often (where they don't accept Electron - I've had trouble before using it except in ATMs) I need a Visa Debit. Even though I have one last payday through Santander I'm glad to be leaving them. Just one nightmare after another.
:)Gone from Poor to Excellent Credit. Proud of my recovery. Never going back to the sub prime! :)
