Abbey Account - Visa Electron Sent

Got to the bottom of it. If you have an electron card and your card says Abbey , you will get a new santander visa debit online. However if you have a Santander visa electron you won't get one til your card fully expires, not even reporting it lost will get you a visa debit online. So I won't get one til 2012!0

What exactly is a Visa Debit 'Online'. Do you mean you can apply for it online or it only works on the internet like a Visa Debit? I have an Abbey Electron right now.
I could have sworn a few weeks back when I logged on for internet banking a message came up saying new Santander cards were about to be sent out and that we should come up with a log-in name as the old Electron number would obviously no longer be valid. I have not seen this message subsequently and so started to question my own sanity!0 -

Basically mate, its EXACLY the same as the card you have now, but instead of saying Electron under the Visa logo, it says Debit instead. Its suppose to be accepted in more places, The online is how its authorised, nothing to do with the internet0 -
OK thanks.
I did call them up about a week ago to request an upgrade as I'd been with them for 6 months and run over £1000 through the account per month however the guy at the other end said they didn't have a full 6 months of data yet and that my internal score was 'not high enough'. A complete contradiction to what I'd previously been told about what I had to do to get the upgrade. I'm planning on calling again when I get my 6th month paper statement through the post however I think I've got a fair idea about how it'll go!
On a side note I've never actually really had a problem with the Electron being not accepted anywhere so am not as bothered as I initially was. Not quite sure what the real differences between them are.0 -
Hi Guys
In order to get offered a better account you need to wait 6 months
Abbey/Santander assess accounts around the 6th/7th of each month basically this is when your internal score goes up/down.
They look at the activity on the account e.g
1. Paying in over £1000 month
2. Lots of activity e.g card transactions, DDs, Standing Orders
3. NOT going overdrawn
4. The CRA feed also plays a part
5. Any other products you hold e.g regular saver
Like any bank they want to see you managing your money.
Hope this helps0 -
I got told it was 90 days for managing your money/account efficiently. After my 90 days they stilll refused even an overdraft.
I regularly pay in over £1000 per month with no perks other than a crappy electron card.
Rubbish bank!0 -
Just spoke to the Santander Customer Relations Department re my Santander Visa Electron Card which isn't accepted in as many places as a normal Visa Debit Card.
I enquired re the issue of the new Visa Debit Card as Santander have stopped issuing the Visa Electron Card, the advisor stated that it normally won't be issued until the Electron Card expires but she would report my Electron Card as lost and re order a new Visa Debit Card which worked. she said i'll get my new Visa Debit Card and new pin number in about 10 days.
I'm under the impression the new card number will begin with 4757 instead of the current Electron one which starts 4917.0 -

What was the expiry date of your Santander Visa Electron card. And was it definitely a santander visa electron and not an abbey visa electron.
I've tried to have mine changed, and been told i can't have one until my visa electron expires in 2012 and even when i report it lost, i get a visa electron with a new issue no.0 -
I just got my Electron changed to Visa Debit. Reported it Lost.0

Nice one!!
My card was a Santander Visa Electron card with an expiry date of March 2012.. The girl at customer relations was really helpful and reported the Santander Visa Electron card as lost and then re-ordered a Visa Debit card.
I've not received it as yet but will keep you posted.0
