I guess it is a little bit easier for the kids to approach because they don't have to deal with the fall-out quite so much as you do - it's brilliant that you have them onside though and hopefully it will make him see that it's an important thing for the whole family.
Yes they sounded grown up- which of course they are:o I did think it was a very mature attitude and DS was very kindly towards him..he listened, no hiding, no secrets... i mean with all the phone calls he was getting and the tense atmosphere here..there wasn't anything to hide from.
I think that is a good thing, because all to often debt is behind closed doors and if we discuss it then they will have resources to draw upon when they get older.
DD said- it was worth having a sulk because if you couldn't buy something straight away- at least then you wouldn't get in debt in the future...very mature attitude.:)Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Hiya Bob.
Good to see you've got some backup there.
I guess he just feels hard done by that he's losing something of his.
Is there any scope in the finances to give hin a 'reward' once the overdraft goes so that he can associate getting rid of debt with nice treats?
I know it sounds a bit like dog training, but i think he'll be in the mood of 'what's in it for me?' for a while yet. This might give him some ideas of what's in it for him.
Don't forget to treat yourself and the Boblets at the same time.

Funny you should say that George:D Tonight {[hold onto your chairs} Mr.B has been on the snowball calculator and had a play around with figures, so that he can see how much he can save and the value of overpaying. He has worked out how much he can afford at the moment, and is quite determined to prove to us all how much he *can* do this.
As a reward- i have said with careful budgeting there is room for £50 each for the month. This can go on anything he chooses- but that's it! He has to be creative with birthdays and whatnot..
He has now seen £500 wiped off the overdraft this month. I have paid arrears on his card with the bank- i don't want trouble from there, so i thought if i pay now- they won't pull the plug. So that is an early birthday pressie for him.:p Will update my figures now.
So he quite likes snowballing- and no that's not his treat:eek::D:rotfl::rotfl:
