Not going to post this on Weezl's thread coz she will ban me, but was just looking back to before my light bulb moment (of course I didn't have records, but had enough of my credit cards & bank statements). Worked out that some months we spent an average of £2 a meal each = >£1000 a month - and felt that we were not being extravagent
Currently my GC figure is £550 (about 1/2 on this challenge, 1/6 on general household (cats, washing, ...) and 1/3 on fruit and snacks). I am looking to work on the snacks but even so now living on half as much as before.I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine0 -

Gosh i remember days when we would justify a full cupboard and take aways and eating out:o Usually at teenagers behest and i was working full time, so it was easier to give in.
My budget includes the lot- i am allowing £40 for emergency sundries-toilet roll and the like:D But DD2 also needs a certain amount of things really so i include that in there and i insist on fresh fruit being available as she eats a lot of it. Anything that is looking remotely awful gets cut up and put in a crumble or a sponge- it is easier to reduce sugar when the eating apples are used and i hardly put sugar in sponge or crumble and substitute with spices. She loves natural yoghurt on top. So all good and she doesn't feel like she is missing out and we certainly don't.
Anything that reduces budget is money in our pocket and funnily enough we eat far better than before. One of DD's friends said that she would eat here every night- i said thanks for compliment but i haven't budgeted for that:rotfl::rotfl:
Makes mental note not to encourage extra teenagers:eek: That would ruin budget totally.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Weezl's has no egg in it and i used spices so reduced sugar down to half the amount. Oh and i don't use artificial sweetener- the cake is nice on its own.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I tell you it is absolutely beautiful and everyone was queuing up for more. I can compare it to a really good fruit bread.
Weezl would be proud as i used value dried fruit too- mind i do for wedding cakes and no one knows the difference.
I may soak some in a lady grey teabag and see what flavours that brings out as well
Time to make is about 5 mins in total then cooking times.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
