"Petronella felt like she was shoplifting because everything was so cheap"

    Hahhaha oh how i laughed!!
Debt which IS NOW GONE before 31.12.2011: CC - GONE!!! :j Loan: GONE!! :j
  • she actually looked like the average poundshop customer to me,she certainly didn't look as well groomed as she might think.
Discount shops are like any other shop you have to pick out the good from the bad.
I have had whoopied ready meals from Waitrose that have been so terrible I have regreted paying the few pence that I did for them.
I am sure she wrote the article for shock value but it just came across as poorly written to me,maybe the Daily Mail is feeling the credit crunch and employing cut priced journalists.:p
  • I'm sorry to have to admit this but I'm a total poundland snob with an Essex accent
I know they don't go together right?

It's just I can't picture myself reaching for the 4 mars bars for a quid!

No disrespect to those of you who do shop in there though!
    Future Mrs Gerard Butler :D

Without wanting to resort to inverse snobbery - it's not a massive surprise to read such a clearly inflammatory article about Poundland written by someone called Petronella
    .

    With a brother called Peregrine.

Her father was a Labour MP, till he met Mrs T and fell in love.

i suggest she gets a better coat, does her hair and applies her make up with more care - she certainly doesnt look out of place does she? i expected someone well groomed and stylish. i shop in poundland for certain things, other stuff i can get cheaper elsewhere, i certainly dont go in there to sneer at my fellow shoppers

  • My sister had exactly the same attitude as Petronella Wyatt. Until yesterday afternoon when I dragged her kicking and screaming into the 99p shop around the corner from where she lives. She came out with a carrier bag full of toiletries and cleaning materials most of which were the same brands that she had been buying at Sainsburys for quite a lot more than 99p. I think I've made a convert. Why waste money that could be spent on something else?

Some of the houseware-type stuff was poor value but then again some of the food items were recognisable brands and fantastic value.

99p for a Mitcham antiperspirant isn't to be sniffed at, if you see what I mean.

'Half the shoppers look grey and sort of hopeless. The other half look like criminals.'

    Patronising old slapper.
    She has a point though.
It's like a Burberry and Bench (wearing either automatically qualifies you as P!key or Chav) jumble sale with the people that go in there.

I have seen them in passing.
