He rang me a week later to say that he thought the hamper looked excellent until he opened the DVD case and found that there was only money in it.
He thought we had done him lots of PIRATED DVD's to watch and was quite put out that we hadn't!!
:rotfl:There's nowt as weird as folk is there? You have to laugh. It's either that or you slap them.
I'd love that hamper btw. Just for the record, I'd be very appreciative of anyone's efforts...........please pm for address.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I am sorry OP that you have experienced such behaviour. As numerous people have said, it is the thought that counts. I really enjoyed making hampers for my family this Christmas and flet a little guilty that I hadn't spent much on people. My inlaws are extremely well off and always make us feel uncomfortable about how much they spend on us compared to what we spend in return. They have made it clear that they spend the money because they want to and not because they expect it back. They enjoy treating us! My BIL's face lit up this year when I gave him a sweet hamper with his name on and a gift basket of wine. I made the sweet hamper from a box I got from Home Bargains which I filled with sweets which cost around £3.50 and the wine I got from Asda and presented it in a basket which was re-used from last year. I think this cost around £5. He was over the moon. I think that Christmas has totally lost the meaning for some people and it is not what you have got but how much you have spent. For me it's about spending time with friends and family. Good health and happiness is worth far more.0

I would just love something home made, it would show thought had gone into it and these days peoples time is so precious and so we should appreciate these things even more.
The most treasured things that I own are things that my children have made for me, little scraps of material and little cards and handwritten letters from treasured friends - these are the things I would grab in a fire, not the boots gift set that I was bought (however lovely)You can stand there and agonize........

i can't believe how ungrateful some people could be. for my sister this year i gave her a box filled with all the freebies i had aquired throughout the year. she loved it. although she did make a sarcastic (in a teasing kind of way) comment when she realised i had actually bought the box it was all in so now she's set me a challenge for next christmas to not pay for any part of her present. this is how christmas should be.
what a shame they are family. i do feel sorry for them actually if they are only interested in materialistic things. you got to spend some lovely time with you kid(s) making the presents so you got the best deal.

Off topic for a minute (kinda)....how do you fold the £10 like that? I'm thinking a football team's worth of those shirts would be good for a special birthday I have coming up for someone.Herman - MP for all!0

Well, my reaction to them saying the kids expect toys would be next year to spend about £5 each on the kids in the pound shop on noisy, cr4ppy toys that will drive the parents mad! Quantity rather than quality - I am thinking things like a big bouncy ball, whistle/recorder, drums, big plasticy doll, toy cars, battery operated game with annoying noises, water bombs, fart goop, plastic insects/snakes and maybe some sweets filled with E numbers to make the kids even more hyper - all stuff I have seen in our local £ land and 99p shop.
If you felt you had to get the parents something then a big box of biscuits and/or a box of choccies from the same shop should do!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
