  • Afternoon everyone.

Well i went to costco's today and got a big thing of mincemeat for £14.00 and a big thing of mini chicken breasts for £9.50.
Ive just divided them all up to pop them in the freezer, and got 14 portions of the mince and 19 portions of chicken. These portions are enough for a main meal then left overs for lunch the day after being cooked.
So im well impressed with that, its cheaper than even the supermarket cheapest stuff but by the looks of if it its all quite good quality, yay!
I also got a bag of cassarole vegetables, which is also in the freezer for now. That was 99p and is enough for about 6-8 portions.
    I am a costco convert!

I have also got a few things from my local shop the past few days- marg, milk...choccolate! Although i resited buying any from costco which im very proud of.

Ive been skimming through this thread and everyone seems to be doing really good, well done everyone!

  • Evening all,

Hope your OH gets well soon, Helen.

Just a small spend today, £2.95 i caved in and bought some teabags, i have really tried to like the basic ones but its something i just cant compromise on. So got a box of 240 Fairtrade teabags from Co-op which were half price and i think 50% extra free so not a bad price, and lovely cuppa.

Leftovers tonight, from last nights mince/bolognese mix and mash i think. Have a few opened bits in the fridge to use up-beef, 6 sausages and cooked pasta and sauce. Dunno how that happened but dh wanted to cook last night and i didnt want to complain at him doing something else cos it was a lovely thought as he never cooks! Dunno what to do with them but i'll figure something out.

Should be a grocery nsd tommorrow but i am getting the urge to do a big shop (i neither need anything nor have room), so now after carefully going through GC last couple of months i know its just become a habit rather than a necessity so i am learning and i will resist!

Hope everyone is ok in the weather x

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
Just checked my sig and realised that I had put the amount I had left to spend instead of what I had spent so far in which is quite a big difference! Now showing correct spend.

Hi all - as expected the Sains delivery couldn't be delivered so I've rearranged it for Saturday morning. This means we'll have to do without some things until then but we should be OK.

Looks like my children are off school again tomorrow due to the snow as all school transport in Devon's been cancelled until things improve!

    Wishing everyone well.

  • if you have storage space, bulk buy non-perishable items as the larger packs work out cheaper per unit, plus you can also take advantage of 3 for 2 deals etc, plus you're less likely to run out of things - but only do it for things you already use regularly.

don't always blindly go for the supermarket own brand stuff - at asda, often they have deals on branded goods that work out cheaper than the own-brand version.

the basics/value brands are good for things like tinned tomatoes that are going to be blended and cooked in sauces mixed with other ingredients, so they don't really taste any different.

i'm just about to start weekly meal-planning, at my husband's suggestion, but i'm a bit concerned about it - what if it gets to thursday and i don't fancy spag bol? or if i'm just too knackered/busy to cook?????????

i also batch cook, and freeze portions of pasta/rice dishes for lunches, my toddler's meals etc
