Well due to the snow my asda shop got cancelled, I will give asda their dues they called 3 hours prior to delivery (twice as I missed first call) and the lady was very apologetic but as I said to her I thought that it may be the case the roads are a mess here.

So I haven't spent anything yet, just using up store stuff - my meal plans gone out the window. I turned the LO spag bol (yesterdays tea) into chilli con carne for todays lunch and for tea I'm making roast parsnip soup http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3198/spicy-roasted-parsnip-soup never made it before but got loads of leftover parsnips to use up. I roasted the veg yesterday as I was making banana bread and had space in the oven - so all I've got to do is the "put it together". I'm actually surprised there's any of the roast veg left as oh tried it when it came out of the oven and start picking at it (men ). We having banana cake and custard for dessert................]

That looks like a nice recipe - and very MSE of you to pre-roast the veg while you had the oven on. Reading these postings really inspires me to change my habits little by little - and makes me realise that there is so much more we can do to save the pennies:T

Hi everyone - hope you are all safe and well in this snow.

Helen - hope your OH is ok.

A NSD for me today as we are well stocked. Spent the morning in the kitchen, made Delia's Lemon Surprise pud as I found some lemons lurking in the fridge, also used 1 of them to make Delia's Lemon curd which I will use tomorrow in her butterfly cakes which will mean I have used all the lemons up.;) I have also made Delia's Turkey flan from her Xmas book which I will serve with Delia's Boulangere potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn.

Can you tell I'm a Delia fan yet?:rotfl::p

Off now to check recipes on the front page as I have found some Sausagemeat in the Freezer that didn't get used at Xmas. Don't want to use it in sausage rolls, fancy trying it in a Sausage plait type thing.

Hope you all keep safe and warm.:D

Afternoon all - still off school due to the weather so made the most of it and went to village to have hair done instead! Had to park in Sains carpark so popped in to get a few bits in case the weather gets worse again.
There was absolutely no bread there - don't know if thats because its been panic bought or whether the delivery didn't make it (think the former) but they did have a bit of milk left so got one bottle. I already have one in the fridge so don't need anymore and would rather leave it for those that really need it.

Also picked up a bargain freerange organic chicken reduced to £2.70 - its now living in the freezer possibly for Sunday lunch.
I haven't been to Mr S for a while and was quite impressed by some of their half price offers - picked up a big Sanex shower gel for £1.30 and soem Go Ahead bars (all varieties are half price), also got Special K for £2.

Spent a total of £9.82 - more than I expected but it will all get used up.

Husband went out to shops and spent £4.50 on 250g cheese and a large bar of chocolate (what a rip off). Then in search of milk he went to Tesco Express and spent £1.20 on double cream, and then went to Sainsbury's and bought yoghurts, 2 x Quorn cottage pie, marg, cheddar, eggs and organic milk. Sainsbury's total was £15.84. Shouldn't complain too much there was over a foot of snow; it was still snowing; Sainsbury's is over 2 miles away and it's all up hill on the way back. Just going to update signature.
  • Hello

Going well so far, only extra I've had to buy this week is eggs as I forgot them in my main shop

Was hoping someone could help me - I was going to make a beery bacon pie for dinner tonight, went to get my ingredients out only to find my darling fiance has drunk my beer  so now I have to think of something else to make for this evening.

I was thinking of using the puff pastry and the bacon for some kind of greggs style pasty with cheese - I do have normal cheddar cheese but I also have some camembert from christmas thats needs using (not even opened and goes off in three days)
Do you think camembert would work with the bacon rather than plain cheddar?

No spending for me today. Our cul de sac looks like a car park with cars abandoned all over the place as no one can get in or out. DH has walked the 4 miles to work and will be walking back. I am glad I work from home:rolleyes:

I have made a big batch of soup to warm him up when he gets in and will be making a batch of shepherds pie for tea and to fill up the freezer again. I was beginning to see gaps in the freezer but they will be full again tonight.

Only a couple of pints of milk left and not much fruit but it's tough:D as I am not going out in this:eek: I can always nip to the garage over the road if we get desperate for milk, if they have any left.

    Isn't the snow pretty?!

I got up early this morning and kept peeking out the curtain to see if anyone else was moving their car before I decided to! It was quite heavy but fine for driving, so made it to work on time and in one piece. The snow then got heavier during the morning, so they decided to close the office at lunchtime so we all came home. The snow has stopped here for now, but I am not looking forward to when the sludge freezes into a nice ice for tomorrow.

Had a wander in to town earlier, paid my christmas cheques in and collected a prescription (quite handy being off as these would have had to wait until at least Saturday). Went to Coop as saw that they had Typoo teabags on offer (240 for £2). The company I used to work for went into administration last January and when we were made redundant the big bags of teabags were given to us, so I haven't actually bought any for almost a year! Typoo are my favourite too :D Also got some 'butter' and a TV guide making a £2.97 spend today.
