  • I went into Sainsbury's as I was passing and got some bargains from the oops-a-daisy bin. 4 chicken thighs for 89p (reduced from 1.34) and 4 chicken breasts reduced from 6.71 to 3.24. Might not sound too cheap, but they were organic, free range and corn fed. I only buy ethical meat so most of the time I have to do without.

Has brought my spend up a bit but I've got some good stocks in the freezer now - although it's only one of those flap-at-the-top-of-the-fridge efforts, so can't get that much in!

Anyone got any nice chicken thigh recipes?

NSD for me today and managed to use up some freezer stocks today. Will get some bread and milk to stick in the freezer tomorrow as I am concerned that we could get snowed in in the next few days.

Hope everyone else is faring okay in the cold weather.
  • Evening all,

i did brave the snow to drive to my training today (15 miles!) only to get there to be told it was cancelled! I wouldnt mind but i rang for ages and no answer. So waste of time and petrol:mad: Im due on the ward for first day of my new job tommorow and i genuinely dont know if i will get there, dh has attempted to go to his mates but no chance, and he couldnt get back onto our street cos its a bit slopey, and cars have been abandoned at one end. I have to travel 17 miles and hope i can make it. Why did i choose to work so far away?

I did go to Mr T on my way back, im lucky to live just a 5 min walk from a 24/7 Mr T so not to worried about stocking up, just needed a few bits:

2 x 3l bottles of milk £2.18 (creamfields Discount Brand, on offer i think)
1 x pint of whole milk 45p (for dd)
    very lazy garlic £1.48:o
    frozen peppers 85p
    sugar £1.90

    spend-£6.86

    will add to siggy.

Dh has done a huge slowcooker pot of hm spag bol/mince concoction, so we had that and mash this evening, yummy.

Welll, shall see what tommorow brings, but i dont expect to need to go shops, and i certainly wont be driving there, and dont fancy walking either so should be a nsd

    Good night x

Had to spend money on fast food yesterday so not amused. My 6 hour drive for my interview was.... interesting!! Arrived at hotel for overnight stay (gladly paid for by work) and the restaurant was closed!! So off to McD's for a v. unhealthy dinner. I didn't even enjoy it that much. We don't have a McD's in the town where I stay so I don't usually have them. Anyway, in all spent £5.74 yesterday which I'll add to my total shortly.

Drive up today was worse, got stuck behind an accident on M6 just as the heavy snow started. But musn't grumble :rotfl:I made it back in one piece!!

Stopped for something to eat in services. Again, thankfully I can claim this back. £10.60 for a tiny portion of mac'n'cheese with roast? (soggy) potatoes & a coke. I could actually feed myself for a week on that!

Back to normality tomorrow although I'll need to get milk so no NSD's for me.

    Evening everyone

Sorry for not updating budgets - will do it in a mo - its been a hectic day here, was up at 3am calling an Ambulance for DH, he was in severe pain, maybe prostate, appendics, kidney. The hospital won't have the results of the cat scan until tomorrow so he's in there and I'm here and now its snowing and settling [just what I don't want or need] anyway off to do budgets now

Cosmo - just post what your new annual budget is and I'll change it for you - no probs

I've told OH I'm not cooking him a proper dinner until he's eaten some of the cheese and pate mountain in the fridge. he made a huge fuss before xmas about wanting loads of cheeses and he's barely eaten any yet.

We have the same OH?!!! :rotfl:

Well, the snow arrived today in Stockport, DD's school was closed today and also tomorrow. OH tried to get to work, took him an hour to get not very far so was back home as the kids were getting up.
I was hoping to have a few more NSD's but thought I'd go to Morrisons to buy stuff for my meal plan for the next 2 weeks so I don't have to venture out if I don't feel like it or can't if more snow arrives as forecast. Very quiet on the roads and in the store and feel happy that I'm stocked up and I don't have to go out. I spent £64.23, probably £20 more than I would have done if it hadn't snowed but this went on extra veg, braising steak, chicken, mince and a few other bits to ensure I don't have to shop for a least a week and I can cook double and freeze meals out of the meat I bought for later in the month.

Let's hope the snow doesn't last........

    Helen - ((((((hugs))))))

A NSD for me today - kids back at school and housework central here! Hoping the school is open tomorrow or I will end up with all those friends whose parents work. Free child drop-in centre here whenever there's an inset day/snow day .

Take care and stay warm everyone.
