Hi all - only spent about £15 over the weekend and am now about 2/3 through the budget.
This is the point where I start to panic a bit as the money seems to disappear quicker towards the end of the month, don't know why - perhaps thats just how it feels!
I still I have @£10 a day left but this will have to include a T*esco delivery on 25/1. I've a feeling I will be allocating some of that to February!
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.

I've just found this very good post by Confuzzled with excellent advice, not just for newbies but also for the oldies among us - I think they would help to focus a little better if we get disheartened. ;)

    I particularly like this

'.. even if you only do one little thing each day, something maybe as simple as saving that last portion of peas you might have thrown away so you can sprinkle them in a salad or put them in risotto for the next nights dinner, that is something to be proud of for that day.' :T
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

We had roast lamb for lunch today - a half price leg I bought in Sainsbury's before Christmas. It cost £6.93. There was plenty for 3 adults (MIL came over) and I have sliced the rest up - some to have reheated in today's leftover gravy tomorrow night - I serve this with creamy mash and greens- and the rest to chop up to make a proper shepherd's pie a la Hugh Fearlesslyeatsitall. I have peeled the potatoes already and done a double quantity to have enough for the sheperd's pie as well as for dinner tomorrow. The shepherd's pie will probably go in the freezer for another day - but I am not sure yet.

I haven't been very good at doing proper meal plans this week. I don't know why - I think it's because we have been out of the routine with all the disruptions caused by the weather. But this week should be a 'normal week'.

Yay- we are more than half way through January! And this morning I saw my snowdrops have pushed through the ground - spring will soon be here!

Have a good week everyone and keep up the good work.

  • The NSD have mounted up and I'm pleased with that. I went to Mr M the other day and picked up a few things then thought I don't really need them so put them back and walked out empty handed :)
Did pick up some fruit, veg and salady bits which came to £11.94.

Well, a whole weekend without spending anything - thanks to having to teach a course and getting all my merals on expenses. So two NSDs in a row, making a total spend this week on groceries of £5.50. Excuse me if Im sounding smug!

  • Did the big shop at the weekend and a trip to the butcher's. Total of around £70. Should do me until the end of the week anyhow! Not doing too badly if I don't mess it up like I usually do.....
