Failed Driving Test

i took till attempt four for my nerves to calm down and to feel real confidence behind the wheel. i passed then with flying colours and i now wouldnt be without my car.
i do think that instructors all too often focus on getting the person to pass their test rather than be ready for the responsibility of driving
OP i dont think that a crash course would be the best idea, you do need to find an instructor who will work on your weaknesses however and i do think that if the instructor is saying if you fail you are just not ready is a copout. if you are not ready she should not be putting you up for test
what is important is do you think you are ready? if so go for it, if not it can do more harm to your confidence to fail again and i would suggest getting a new instructor who listens to you and your concerns0 -
Good luck. Maybe you should try a new instructor. I failed a shocking 4 times. I was not confident with my maouvers and I told my instructor I wanted to practise more manouvers but he would just waste my time and make me drive rather than practise my manouvers until last minute.
First time I failed was due to a dual carrageway. I had never driven on that route therefor messed up when joining the road. Second time i failed was when i did a reverse parking and couldnt straighten up my wheel. The third was not driving in the bus lane when It was available to drive in and the fourth was not driving at 30mph on a 30mph road! I was under 30mph but over 20mph.
My driving instructor told me to book another test straight away and tried to get me to do a test just before xmas but i said no as I could not afford it.
Although I felt like and still do sometimes like giving up, I know I will pass and Im not going to give up. I am thinking of getting a new instructor as I do not have anyone else to help me so I have no choice but to take lessons. I do feel like I forget my manouvers as I do not have lessons for months due to money.
Anyway fingers crossed we will both pass.0 -
That is why I think a crash course would help me as going two weeks without driving is not doing me any good. I do feel I need a little more practice but eberyone keeps telling me that to fail with only 7 minors i must be ready.
My current instructor is adding to my nerves to be honest as she just says things like maybe you will one of these people who will never pass the test.
I do think another fail will really knock my confidence.0 -

You need to have a meaningful conversation with your instructor about this comment.
It is not something any decent instructor should joke about nor should they really say it in a "throw away comment" style.
Of course its difficult to understand how this was said on a forum, but assuming it wasn't meant in a jocular fashion it would usually mean 1 of 2 things:
1. That the instructor really doesn't believe you will ever be able to drive - some people just can't, in the same way some people can't draw and some people can't do carpentry.
But if this is true, why is she saying there is nothing wrong with your ability to reverse around a corner, or indeed advising you to take the test (or is she advising against that?)
But most decent instructors would only come to the conclusion that you will not be able to ever drive after their student had had many, many lessons, and usually with different instructors.
Sometimes a student just doesn't click with their teacher. Which is option 2
2. The instructor doesn't feel she can teach you to drive, in which case they should say so rather than just take money off you. They should sit you down and explain the issue and suggest an alternative instructor, perhaps with another local school if she is a one man band. This is not unusual where there is an issue between instructor & student for whatever reason.
Of course you are free to accept or decline the suggested alternative instructor, but at least you'll know where you stand with the existing one who shouldn't then be accepting you for further lessons."Now to trolling as a concept. .... She says there is nothing wrong with my driving but I get nervous when tested. She says there is nothing she can do or teach me to get through the test but it is her who has pushed me to do another test. I so should of looked for another instructor sooner.
My Oh says there is nothing wrong with my driving also. If I had someone else to look after the kids i would take the test in my own car.
My instructor has been brilliant up until now - I think she was just hoping I would pass as she has never liked doing evening lessons.0 -
