    I'm all excited because I bought a new machine today:j :j:j

Found out about a local shop and went to have a chat with them as I needed some advice. The guy in there was so helpful and recommended a cheaper machine than the one I had in mind.
He let me try lots of machines and listened carefully to what I needed.
Offered 3 year guarantee, free tuition if needed, and a 2 week change if I don't like it period. :D

I have ended up with the Toyota Quilt 50, which has all the features I wanted, plus it comes with an extension table and a walking foot :T

I haven't tried it yet as we have my FIL arriving soon as its his birthday and we are taking him out, but I'm itching to thread it up ;)

Just looked online and could have got it slightly cheaper, but thats without the tuition and 2 week exchange.

The bonus is that I complained to Lidl about my old machine and they wrote offering me a refund if I take it back to my local shop (it was bought in London by a friend, so I don't have the receipt)
Thats £40 off the new machine :p

    Has anyone got this model?

Being nosey now as i really want a quilting machine, but how much did the toyota model cost? Have you tried it out? xx

    My latest bag piccie below.
Used oilcloth for the first time (also lined it with oilcloth) and not quite sure if I like sewing with it yet!! As I said in last post I have just ordered a teflon foot so might enjoy it better once I start using that!!

Pootle your bags are wonderful :T I love the fabric you have used on this one :D
Im still lurking on here inbetween painting the kitchen, work and running around everywhere :rotfl:
I keep getting my fabric out and trying to work out what I can make :o I need to get started on some of the baby things I have in mind with the fabric you kindly sent me.
Im going mad on rustic country/american fabric at the moment, I am going to make a doorstop with some I have, oh and some hearts :rotfl:
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

  • My apologies for leaving my earlier post without a link but I had to leave the computer in a hurry.

Roman blinds DVD - I haven't seen this one.

Roman blinds tutorial - DVD included in a boxed set

This set would make a lovely Christmas gift if anyone is interested.

    As would this set
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/10-Pack-Patchwork-quilting-DVD/dp/B000XZ8QIU/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1283371489&sr=1-2

Unfortunately both sets are out of stock but you can ask to be notified when they are available again. I paid £10 for each set.

I think the crystal adhesive is called Gem Tac.

Not had a chance to use it yet - will be tomorrow now.

I paid £169 which is considerably cheaper than the Brother I was looking at.:money:

I'm pondering over an overlocker at the moment...... Just such a lot of money and being MSE I'm loathe to buy something that I'm not sure how much I'll use. Was considering if I can rent one for a while and make a garment and see how I get on with it, does anyone know a company that rents then out (South East) or should I ust go for it?!

It was the computerised Brother I was looking at, but the guy talked me out of it. He reckoned that the Toyota was better quality machine and will sew virtually any material or thickness.
He demonstrated on fleece, jersey, lycra and 4 thicknesses of curtain fabric - easy peasy ;)

He must be confident if he is offering an exchange or money back after 2 weeks :D
And I'm supporting a local business.

I keep thinking about an overlocker. They look a bit complicated to me.
Have you thought about asking on Freecycle?
Another option may be to find a local sewing machine repairer through Yell. He may have a reconditioned overlocker available and also be prepared to give you a full demo.
Do you have a sewing group locally? They may be able to help.
Let us know how you get on, I'd be interested to know what you decide.

whereabouts in the SE are you? as there is a fabric company with shops in Colchester, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Salisbury, that runs 'get to know your overlocker' classes
