Lovely bags and sock monkeys!
The jersey tunic has been but on hold while I get hold of twin ballpoint needles. I think they'll be best for hems.
I'm working on a jersey skirt. Overcast the edges and have just used a stretch stitch on the hems. At the moment it looks too big. I think it might take me a while to figure out how to adjust patterns etc. To get the best fit for me. I'm going to make these first few patterns up several
Times so hopefully I will refine and learn as I go along. Any tips appreciated!2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
Guys this is a wonderful thread... I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?? I fancy have a go at Roman Blinds... does anyone know where I could watch a tutorial & does anyone have any idea where I would get the batons used in the blind?
Also so you know where I would get the glue to stick gems back onto clothes dd1 gems have come off her top, I have the gems just need to glue them back on !!
Thanks
Ginga
For your blinds tutorial - I Googled 'how to make roman blinds video' and a few answers came up. Give it a try and see if anything there helps you.
I have a DVD which shows how to make Roman Blinds in this set.
The whole set was £10. Unfortunately it is out of stock at the moment though.0 -

I'm all excited because I bought a new machine today:j :j:j
Found out about a local shop and went to have a chat with them as I needed some advice. The guy in there was so helpful and recommended a cheaper machine than the one I had in mind.
He let me try lots of machines and listened carefully to what I needed.
Offered 3 year guarantee, free tuition if needed, and a 2 week change if I don't like it period.
I have ended up with the Toyota Quilt 50, which has all the features I wanted, plus it comes with an extension table and a walking foot :T
I haven't tried it yet as we have my FIL arriving soon as its his birthday and we are taking him out, but I'm itching to thread it up
Just looked online and could have got it slightly cheaper, but thats without the tuition and 2 week exchange.
The bonus is that I complained to Lidl about my old machine and they wrote offering me a refund if I take it back to my local shop (it was bought in London by a friend, so I don't have the receipt)
Thats £40 off the new machine
Has anyone got this model?Jack of all trades ... Master of none

I buy what is termed as Oilcloth these days. That is good for the childrens aprons, mats under the table etc etc. Bit difficult to sew if you have the wrong needles! (I need to get specialist needles, rather then he mixed set I have been getting of late!).
I also have lined aprons with Shower curtaining. But you have to use the larger stitch or it can tear if your not careful.
I think that someone may come back with the right names for the fabrics, but if you think curtain fabrics are too heavy, then I think you need a Cotton Poplin??? Can Rikki or someone correct me if I am wrong. Polyestercottons are not so good. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Ive just started using oilcloth (I just bought a teflon foot as although it makes it easier I dont think the masking tape thing does the trick if sewing lots of it. havent used my new foot yet but hoping it makes it alot easier) What kind of needles do you use Mooloo? I just use my normal ones but not sure if I should buy something different?
Irishgirl - Re the apron - I made one with really heavy soft cotton like the stuff in Harts link and it works a treat (Im a very messy cook!)
Hart - How are you?! Seems like Ive not said hello in ages. Hope all well with you. Great news on your fabric bargains!! x0 -
My latest bag piccie below.
Used oilcloth for the first time (also lined it with oilcloth) and not quite sure if I like sewing with it yet!! As I said in last post I have just ordered a teflon foot so might enjoy it better once I start using that!!0 -

Hi,
I would probably suggest oilcloth or a canvas printed material hunny xBlogger / Money SaverMake £2022 in 2022 Challenge - Accepted0 -
I forgot you can also cut up a tablecloth to make an apron, thats what i do as you can get all coloured prints and even clear (acrylic plastic) table clothes at a 1/4 of the price of oilcloth xBlogger / Money SaverMake £2022 in 2022 Challenge - Accepted0
