I have just discovered this thread and am really interested in joining the club. However, I am absolutely beginner and need to buy a sewing machine.
Can anyone recommend me to get a decent machine with cheap price?0 -
Hi BattleToy and welcome. I haven't got any recommendations for machines but there has been several discussions about machines before if you look back in the thread.
Inspired by Danemi's gift bag I've just made this -
I've sewn a circle of felt on the back of the decoration and attached a safety pin so it can be used as a brooch.0 -

You could try asking for a machine on Freecycle if you are prepared to travel within your local area to collect it.
Do you have a shop nearby which sells machines? Ideally you would sit in front of a machine and play before you buy.
Here is our latest discussion about choosing a machine which may help you https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2169321

Hope this helps. It is a difficult decision to make.0 -
If can't/don't want to buy on the high street then I can recommend www.sewingmachinesdirect.co.uk . I bought my machine from them in January and Russell must be the most helpful person ever. Their service is great and they aren't out to get the most money out of you like some. Check out their desiplay/refurb models because they come with a full guarantee and with most machines you get the accessory pack which includes all the thread and scissors you'll need to get you going. Thread and scissors are expensive! If you read back over this thread you'll see my experience with them recently. Sorry I sound like I work for them but it is so unusual to get the standard of service they give.I have just discovered this thread and am really interested in joining the club. I can second the recommendation for SMD, they were really helpful when I was trying to work out what machine would suit my needs and budget. The accessory pack is fab and the next day delivery was perfect for impatient little me! Had the machine 4 months now and used it lots and am very happy.0

Thanks everyone for helping me try to find that fabric. I aint found it yet but your links will be useful if I dont get any joy with it.

Ive been buying fabric again.
Went online to Gaga fabrics and got this Michael Miller stuff which I think is pretty funky and also got this which Ive been eyeing up for ages and think is just oh so cute!! Probably going to make some zippered pouches or something with it. Am off into town now to the fabric shop to see what else I can buy!! Dont know about anyone else but I find fabric shopping a bit addictive. My OH keeps asking if Im going to ever make anything with it or just keep buying it!!!

You have been busy, cuddles. I bet the kids will love the skull and crossbone ones.
