Just had a very sucessful trip into town, managed to get everything I need for my blinds so I hope I can do it sometime this week. I actually have really good instructions for both things in a book I already own! I'm too dependent on the internet!

I will of course let you know how it goes.

Shirlgirl - what is the shop, sounds interesting, my best friend lives in Maldon so maybe I could tie it in with a trip to hers. And also I fancy foraging for samphire there too if there's time!
Didn't get the name but bizarrely it has a coffee shop at the front and fabric atthe rear. It is in the lower end of the High Street.

Can I ask where you bought the rods for your blinds or did you just buy wooden dowling?

I'm still struggling to find filling with a bit of weight for doorstops and chickens.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Googled and checked ebay for beanie filling, but can't find anything.:(

Chicken corn? I can buy a large sack (15kg) for about £6. I've used it in those heat bags that are heated in the microwave. Don't see why it wouldn't be OK. If you don't keep chickens you shuld be able to buy it in any animal feed merchant as chicken keeping is pretty mainstream nowadays.

Bird cage grit? I used some recently for a doorstop doll I made recently (and haven't finished yet :o)

Intrigued by a Doorstop Doll - do you have a tutorial link?

No - it was an Embroiderers' Guild workshop, and the doll was designed by one of the local members - a very talented lady who produces some stunning things. It's a cloth doll, but instead of legs it has a circular base so it stands up (I'm only calling it a doorstop doll but you could just use it as an ornament). When the doll is made you can go mad on the clothes and hair (I've got some multi-coloured eyelash yarn). I haven't yet made the clothes and hair - I have to admit that I'm a bit lazy about finishing stuff off. I am always full of good intentions to finish off ufo's though. I've got a dress for myself on the go, but by the time it's finished it will probably be (hopefully) too big as I'm trying to lose a couple of stone :rotfl:

Thanks Shirlgirl, will hunt that place down next time I go. Will have Dylan with me though so don't know how much of a browse I'll have!

It's a rod free version, I'm not sure how it will turn out but if I don't like it I can unpick the tape and add some rods pretty easily. The book I have does it without and it looks quite nice and a bit softer IYKWIM. I'm not sure if it's OK to photograph the page or will I have copyright lawyers on my heels?

Talking of doorstops. I want to make a Laura Ashley esque rooster/chicken doorstop I love it.

Sounds interesting how they make them. What is the book called? Might see if I can have a look. I bought 3 roman blinds on Ebay for £3.50 including P&P but they didn't come with rods or cords. I bought cord on Ebay and wonder if I could put them up without rods. They are only for a cloakroom sink area so they will never be lowered it is literally just to dress the window.

Love the chicken by the way. Being a chicken keeper I love all things chickeny.
