Hi, I have just found this thread and it is great - really enjoying reading it.
My dad bought me a reconditioned Singer sewing machine 42 years ago for £45 and it is still going strong. Over the years it has saved me so much money, I used to sew all my clothes including wedding dress, coats, jackets, pjs, childrens clothes etc etc. But over the years I have become lazy (or maybe it's just that I now work full time) and mostly alter clothes to fit perfectly, make curtains, cushions etc.
But, reading this thread is putting me in the mood to do some proper dressmaking again. Look what you've started !!!
Will pop in again and let you know how I'm doing
Happy sewing.Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

happy birthday danables!! Kandi those union jack purses are fantastic! and woop! for all those with new or new to them machines!!
i had quite a bit of trouble with my machine yesterday... the thread kept making 'beards' on the underside and then snapping. then i remembered i'd done some really light fabric stitching (doh!) and had changed the bobbin thread - still black but much finer... so i changed my threads back to heavy duty, put in a new denim needle, checked my tension, and popped out another crow! sorry the picture isnt great but i wanted to share him before he's not mine anymore...Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23.
