I have been selling on average just one item a month since I opened the shop but then I am not that impressed really with the way Folksy has been going lately. A lot of people on their forum are moaning as they changed the site just in the run up to Christmas when people were expecting their biggest sale period, plus the search on there and the way they categorise things are a bit awkward. For example, I have made some cushions which I think would be more suitable for a bedroom but you can only put cushions on under the Living Room category.
Mooloo, did you have a pattern for the bag made from mens ties? I have a big box full of ties that my OH has been chucking out over the last few years. I wanted to make a bag out of them to sell but not sure how to sew them up or anything lol.
I think there was a tutorial somewhere originally, but I cannot find it at the moment. I will get back to you!.
I have had fun with it I must admit, and I used the small pieces on the ribbon weave type patch some stage last year.! Still not turned it into the cushion cover I was going to do. Must do that one too! eek. so many silly projects that I had started and not finished. My aim is to get them finished.
Re the cost of the selling. I havent really made anything much, I just sell them if I can, or have been, just to make some pin money to cover the next mad purchase of fabric. However I would like to make it a better business if I could at some stage in the very near future. My income options are rather limited with my disabilities. But its not the quickest way to make money thats for sure, and as sewing is becoming more and more popular now, the competition is huge. The internet has helped it to blossom thats for sure. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I totally agree, and think it would just be too much of a chore and take the joy away from my hobby. Having said that I am now building up quite a collection of quilts and I am running out of room so may try and sell some of the new ones I make towards the end of this year.
Quilts seem to be the only things that people are prepared to pay reasonable prices for. So you should try and test the waters. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Thanks for the comments xx Yes Pennib, its appliqued using the machine. The background is patchwork then I stitched the flowers over the top and added some beads and sequins and a bit of embroidery. I am going to make some more of these when I get time. I want to make a couple, one each, for my two sisters plus some more for the shop too.0

Rufusdog, your sewing is wonderful stuff, and very inspirational. They must take you a very long time to do.
I am dabbling with some patchwork at the moment, but have lost my plastic ruler when I went to the wi course in November, so need to get another one. I am still not very good with the rotary cutter.!
I managed to finish hand stitching the lining into the jeans bag that I have been dabling with, but thats all the sewing I have managed today. Been out since 8.45 until 3.30 today. Long day for me.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Pennib, its funny you should say that about the stained glass as its something I have always wanted to do but think it would cost too much to have a go at. The toadstool pin cushion is lovely, you have such gorgeous fabrics xx0

Rufus I have seen some 'glass' stained with black bias binding that look pretty good.
The pin cushion is made from felt with hand embroidery on top.0
