And that will fall right into their hands!! They could just sack en mass. My employer suspended me in front of everybody, on the basis they believed I had been putting the phone down on customers. It was in fact a mistake with the phones. As I said 'goodbye' to customers and placed the receiver, if they didn't do theirs before I did, it showed as 'hung up'.

This only came about after I offered to call customers back, who had been shown as 'hung up' and ask what they felt of my call - with management listening. After that there really was no way back for me...................
That is why I said 'everyone'. Why did the wall fall in East Germany?

Ultimately, they are NOT going to sack everyone, they will look stupid to their governors if they do, because no work will be done. And this is the one thing these inflated egos fear. The fact that these places are run to the bone actually provides some strength in standing up to petty oppressive behaviour. Their strength is limited to victimising individuals, hence no unions.

Our place had 2 other call centres too - including India. If we stopped, they would get all the calls. Most call centres have something similar in place, in case of technical issues in one centre!!!

And by the way. I'm on your side!!

Yes. So did I. That is why they felt I had been dropping calls. Anyway I got a mumbled apology after my suspension. Told to come back to work. I did this for a few weeks. Felt very uncomfortable. Went off on stress - and I was stressed. I felt totally embarrassed by it all. Had panic attacks. Agreed a pay off. Best thing I ever did!!!

And yes in that kind of job, expect to be treated like crap. Totally wrong I know. But your targets will always move. Turnover of staff will be high. Wages poor.
    Try looking for something else!!

Thats what i was afraid of.. if i cause to much fuss over my blanket, they will make it very uncomfortable for me to work there.. people i work with are to scared to open their mouths so i would be the only one making a stand.. tbh i would end up looking silly and probably sacked.. i will in the meantime, keep looking for other employment..

These are a family business been going 30 odd years but , just branched out into a proper call centre.. so they have no sister call centres. the management are all untrained in management. and they change the rules every week to suit the occassion.

And so all the work goes to India. And the bosses who strut around with their inflated egos stay in England and manage no one? How long will they be allowed to do that for? I suppose turkeys might vote for Christmas.

Reviewing the whole thread, could they be trying to "persuade" or otherwise make things uncomfortable so that people will leave, and can be replaced by new staff on even worse pay ( NMW only) and conditions. if they were to dismiss you over a blanket, I think they would be up the creek at a tribunal imho.

Oh that happened by the way. The same managers who caused unrest for most of the staff (and they left), got the 'push' because they were no longer needed. Most of the work is now done in India!! Company had removed 75% of the work force with very little redundancy pay!! Clever.

That is a major problem with call centres, they offshore the jobs thinking they can save vast amounts on salaries, but there will be a big payback time with reduced customer satisfaction. BT are having many complaints due to them doing that

OK, turkeys not only vote for christmas, they join in putting up the decorations.

The moral of the story is that the petty bosses should look after their staff.

Problem is, the petty bosses want their bonus, so the staff can go swivel, and be grateful that they have a job, plenty more where they came from in the jokecentre is their mantra. Shave a quid or two here and there to enhance the bottom line now, forget the future extra costs that may become apparent when it is too late.
