Been away since I last p[osted so nothing in or out at all :(

Will start again today and try to get rid of at least 10 things.

I have a dilemma - cant make up my mind whether to declutter a room (10 items at a time) or just get rid of 10 random items. I know either way will declutter the place eventually, but then I think if i do a room at a time, then I will see the results so much quicker. What do you all think?

Ruth.. if it is really cluttered i would do 10 items from each room.. it is usually fairly easy to locate 1 bits of rubbishy paper or empty envelopes at first.. and in between i would focus on one room and mabe do 15-30 minutes each day in a different room.. so you end up throwing out 70 items from each room in a week and spending 15-30 minutes tidying each room once a week. I could spend all week tidying one room and it wouldn't look any better!!

  • Great to see how busy we’ve all been over the weekend! I’m still on baby steps with this de-cluttering business but I’m finding it very empowering to be throwing away lots of carp. It’s a great feeling when you look in the recycling bin and see it’s almost full, which is fabulous as it means the carp is no longer in the house!!

    In:
    Post
    Food shopping
Make-up bag from my mom (old make-up bag will go out soon when I’ve gone through it – honest!!) ;)

    Sorted:
Purse – thrown old receipts / coupons away
Christmas bags / wrap / cards now sorted and put away
Present draw sorted, list written up so I can see what we have
Bermuda triangle (someone else used this term and I thought it was very appropriate for the paperwork basket in our kitchen) this has now been sorted and paper recycled / letters pending filing. I actually found a till receipt from March 07 in there!
2009 Calendar in said ‘Bermuda basket’ never used
2 empty cardboard boxes – why were we keeping these??

    Out:
General carp found in Bermuda triangle basket
    Dried up mascara
    Parcel to PO
Bag of rubbish from upstairs bins
Lots of recycling, said bin is now almost full

    Pending:
8 books, thermal top, t-shirt, flip flops and gel eye mask in pile for a charity bag (hopes one comes through the letterbox very soon)

Still a long way to go but these baby steps are feeling good! :p
