hmmm i think i'll join you!

Failed miserably with the last challenge i set myself but here goes.

    Wednesday
1 black bag of off opened one coat
    1 trike (freegle)
1 set of mud guards (freegle)
    About 20 bits to recycling
1 nasty bog roll brush and pot (binned)
4 black bags of general rubbish form a broken cupboard. Still loads in there but at leats i can walk in to it now, well barely, my nose can fit in.

So total of 28 things gone, another 22 things to go!

    Time to crack on !

I've not been on here for AGES! DS's bedroom is now decorated and finished. DD's bedroom has been redecorated. Carpet is being fitted on Saturday. I've cleared the hallway (again!). I have a car full of stuff to go to the tip now. I need to paint a door later on so that we can rehang it in the next couple of days. Then we'll be able to finish off other little bits of decorating which in turn= decluttering.
A few weeks ago I loaded up all of the not in use dregs of paint and stuff and took that to the tip too. My utility room is emptier now :)
I also need to paint my downstairs loo- probably tonight. Then there will be another paint tin to go to the tip.
Am loving the fact that our house is almost almost done and know it will be so much easier to keep clean and tidy when all of the tool boxes are put away :D

    Hi everyone,
would love to join this thread if you will have me. We live in a 3 bedroom house - only two are occupied by humans as the third room is just full of clutter and I do mean full as in, can just about squeeze in there if you manouver carefully. :)
We have three sheds of which two are full of yet more clutter, the loft is ram jam full of ???? - cant even remember whats up there to be honest except a large stash of wine bottles (empty) which were in the loft when we moved here 34 years ago. :eek:The third shed holds the microwave and freezer with just a smallish amount of junk BUT its breeding slowly .

On top of that our bedroom is overflowing onto the landing and my mum has a garage but luckily no car as its full of more of our stuff. Our problem is we keep everything, to give you a bit of an insight I have a load of magazines from 1976 that I used in college and hubby has some 'fitness' magazines from 1950 something and believe me thats not the oldest stuff we have. :( :rotfl:

I wont be doing anything this year now but fingers crossed 2011 is the year of THE BIG CLEAN OUT.
I thought I would come and say 'hello' now and have a read through the thread and hope to get going in Jan.
Ohh can just imagine a nice, uncluttered, minimalist house but I 99% guarantee that will never happen so I will settle for a vast improvement on what we have now.

If I forget please come and find me on one of the other threads I have joined.
Will keep looking in between now and 2011 and then its WAR ON JUNK AND CLUTTER. :rotfl::rotfl:

Welcome Billie-jo :). How about just putting as much stuff as you can fit n your recycling bins? Start small and all that!

oops don't think I managed the 50 by Friday, there was the charity bag on Tuesday,
Wednesday 1 present to the secret santa at work but then one came home with me again so don't think I can count that can I? and 6 Ebay parcels
    Thursday - nothing went out
Friday - cardboard and 2 tubes from the wraping paper to the recyling, 5 ebay parcels and oops almost forgot 58 fairy cakes and 20 gingerbread men went to school for the Christmas coffee afternoon and 1 present for a teacher leaving today so in a sneaky way I did manage it :)
  • Didn't manage anywhere near 50 things by today, but was out for the bulk of yesterday and today (which was when I'd pencilled in decluttering sessions), as was asked by family to do some visiting/shopping errands at the last minute! Have managed to get rid of 13 items via Ebay in the last couple of weeks, so quite pleased with the in to out ratio overall (not counting things in for presents, as they will be gone soon!)

OH's Mum is coming to stay for at least one night (possibly two) over Christmas, so have a week to change the spare room from the bomb site it currently is into a welcoming room. Will get rid of some more stuff before she arrives! I feel I'm getting to the difficult stage now, got rid of the all of the easy stuff (like smaller sized clothes I'd been holding onto in the hope they would one day fit - I did lose the weight and then the clothes didn't look right anyway!) It's a struggle for me to let things go as most of what is left I like or it holds sentimental value (or it is OH's stuff who is a hoarder!) However I know more still has to go - I will get the nice home I deserve in 2011!

    In

Finally had my winter boots delivered, yay, I heart them! :D

    Out

Burnt a small box full of papers (stuff with name/address on that couldn't be recycled)
Recycled leaflets that came with parcel
    Three Ebay parcels

    Pending Out

Ordered a pair of trainers with the boots to get a discount and free delivery, however they are ridiculously small and have to go back. Don't trust them to get back within the time limit by post, so will have to take them back to the shop, which means a trip to the city centre.

Six items added to charity bag (two pairs of trousers, two tops, a book and an ornament.) This is pretty full now, so will take beginning of next week.

One more Ebay parcel to go (buyer only paid today!)

I didnt reach my target of another 50 items either. Got rid of odd bits here and there. I will be glad to get some presents delivered over the weekend and out of the house- once I've wrapped them I want them out! Have a carbootful of stuff to deliver to the charity shop so that will be good to get rid of too.

My challenge this weekend is to clear the master bedroom - even if some of the stuff moves into the spare room. I will try and sort as much as possible as I go.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I thought thats what spare rooms were for :D. We used to have this but swopped it for kids instead. Now have it full of their junk rather than ours!

Long time, no see on this thread. Will be getting something done soon - will report back later this weekend.

  • Hi everyone

As a child I can recall my Mum doing a big spring and autumn clean. Twice a year she would go through the whole house, no cupboard would be left unopened, and anything tht was no longer useful would be gone. She was ruthless and as a result our home was always well organised - a place for everything and everything in its place - as she used to say :D

I really want to do this myself but I find it so hard to be as ruthless as my Mum was. I am a natural hoarder and my first thought is always "well it might come in handy one day". I can't help thinking what I spent on something and/or the personal memories it holds compared with what it will fetch on ebay or whatever and I find myself holding onto things that are just sitting and gathering dust :o

We have 5 children and I have a big cupboard full of their "special" stuff - things I can't bear to part with but I know if I don't will just in a cupboard for the next 30 odd years taking up room and gathering dust!

I went through the kids video games, for example, and there are 5 or 6 that have only been played once or twice in the last year but I can't help but think "It was £20 and you never know this MIGHT be they year they rediscover it and get some use out of it...." :(

So HELP ME - our home is overflowing with "stuff" and we need to have a clearout so how do you guys stay focused and make sure you really don't end up hanging onto loads of stuff you really won't ever use..........

Any natural hoarders who have managed to overcome their tendency to hoard??
