The Great Declutter Part 2
Comments
-
After my recent mass decluttering (arrival of workmen) I have to say that my life has been transformed. Although the effort is tremendous the result is equally tremendous. No more fear of opening cupboard/looking under beds/pulling out drawers.
I sent a set of drawers off to get french polished the other day and we just took out the 3 drawers and tipped the contents onto the bed  it certainly helped to focus the mind. I would say that three quarters of the stuff is now in the bin. :j Now there is only the 6 drawers in the kitchen to tackle and I will do them with great objectivity.
Clutter drains the energy out of me and I can't believe that it got so bad. Surfaces are NOT for putting things on, apart from wine glasses. Going to back to my previous mantra 'Don't put it down, put it away'.
Fingers crossed then?
:rotfl:
Wow this is my aim, to change my life by decluttering the whole house
I'm starting in our bedroom today as DH has taken DS1 out, and DS2 is napping. I pledge to get one of my wardrobes completely sorted out by the end of today. I will get rid of all the clothes I don't wear, even if I only have 1 pair of pants and 2 tops left!!Mummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4 :eek:0 -
I am also going to try and do the 100 things in 10 days challenge, starting with today.
1) Blokes shower gel (yukky smell cheapo gift) bin
2) Magazines - recycled
3) lots of plates, cups and bowls - freecycle (yesterday, so probably cheating a bit)
4) cheapo ring - bin
5) some old photos (duplicates) - recycling
6) lots of cardboard boxes - recycling
7) Bag if baby clothes - charity shop
8) Bag of mens clothes - charity shop
9) some coat hangers - bin
10) broken coathangers - binMummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4 :eek:0 -
Hi all,
Wow loads of progress! Ms Halffull - 20 things in one day now that's impressive too! I've been helping a friend declutter her garage. Don't you just love Freecycle/Freegle! Will be back soon to report what my next target will be.
Keep going everyone. Doing decluttering not only gives you back space in your house (I had carpet in here, what all along??!) but also makes you think twice about what you're buying. Special note to Oceanspirit to get rid of the equivalent number of items/clothes you bought in M&S!Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Cleared all the kitchen cupboards on Thursday -
jars with labels that won't come off - recycling
recipe books, unused - present drawer and charity shop
tins and pans - charity shop
random craft items - charity shop. Our Oxfam takes and sells anything.
ornaments found at back of cupboard - charity shop
Then I decluttered the cupboard under the stairs. Complete nightmare to get into and DH arrived home just as I looked my most dishevelled. Nothing to actually throw out but some newspapers.
On Friday I did the living room -
several books I have read once - charity shop
all videos - we now have no video player so charity shop
all saved wrapping paper, scraps and evelopes to reuse have been sorted into bags and either binned or put back in their proper places.
It's the turn of the craft cupboard next. However, I know someone who is just starting doing craft fairs, so any spares will go to her.
I do this once a year. Usually in September so that the whole house is decluttered before Christmas happens. It feels good.0 -
Morning all,
Right my next target. Decluttering 100 things in 10 days has been working really well recently. I want to supercharge things a bit. So today I'm going to get rid of....50 things in one day! Yes a really tough one...I'm armed with a rubbish bag, a recycling bag and a bag to fill with charity stuff. So here I go.
1. Rubbish from bathroom (loads of gubbins) (bin)
2. Crumped plastic inner from a strong bag (bin)
3. Gubbins from bedroom floor (bin)
4.5.6.7.8.9.10.11. Magazines (recycling)
12. 13. Brochures (recycling)
14. Cardboard packaging (recycling)
15. 16. Books (charity)
(sneezing fit from all that rubbish....)
Right up to 16 things. Will be back with more...:TDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Mineallmine, thats fantastic! I'm back from holiday - and can see very clearly how my paperwork gets so bad, lots of little things - postcards bought, adverts for interesting things torn out of leaflets, historical leaflets collected, etc etc etc.....
However, I did manage to do a bit of decluttering yesterday (I'll have to search back over this thread to find the numbers)
28. lots of paperwork from the "not urgent but pending" pile
29. washbag thrown away (I had to cut it open - since I've got arthritis in my hands so badly, I literally can't open the clasp) and 3 smaller washbags from stash used instead.
30. work journal into recycling.
31. pair of shoes I inherited, into the charity shop pile.
32. A5 ring folder to charity shop - no way I want paperwork of that size accumulating.
33. cards and postcards to charity shop.
34. belt that was falling apart, binned.
I love this! Managed to do more than I thought, happily :T
Movers are arranged, I *think* its all going to go ahead, decluttering is what I need to do - the new house is a fair bit smaller than this one in terms of big storage, so I have to be careful. And like others, reassessing what I want from my life because of bereavement .... but I've just found out I *will* have two wardrobes still, like I do now - the relief I felt means I still have to be *really* careful not to just throw everything into storage bits still :eek:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Hugs karmacat :A, and here's to your new life and a clutter free home :j
23. Magazine, more(!) (recycling)
24. Brochure (recycling)
25. Packaging from a tangle teezer, great product (recycling)
26. Furniture (freecycle)
27. Unloved toiletries (charity)
28.29.30.31.32 More magazines (recycling)
33. Book (charity)
34. Packaging (recycling)
Have to say I'm surprised how quickly these are adding up. I'm focusing back on the bedroom today and it's still work in progress.:oDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
