The Great Declutter Part 2

  • Decluttered another 10 items today - not made a massive difference but things that I've had lying around for a while went, also some more out of date foods.

    IN:
    Bank statement
6 library books (only temporary though, they'll be going back next week)

    OUT:
A cardboard box from our grandson’s paddling pool, this had been on the kitchen windowsill since July
4 plastic wine glasses. I bought these for a silly price in Asda for our new picnic hamper in the summer, but then found some better ones. These are now excess to requirements so will go to the charity shop.
A kettle that has got mould inside. This had been put away when we bought a new one ‘just in case’... when that 'just in case' moment came last week, I discovered it had mould in it so it’s going!
2 big heavy mugs from the Marin Suites in San Francisco. We got these while on holiday in 2003.... I’ve never liked them, we never use them, and have just bought some nice new pretty delicate mugs, so there’s no room for these in the cupboard any more. Off to the charity shop.
2 dead hyacinths. I bought these for 50p each before Christmas and they flowered over Christmas, but due to the dry atmosphere and not being watered, they’ve now given up the ghost and died. I put the bulbs in the compost bin, and am recycling the plastic flowerpots for when I grow my own stuff in the summer. The ceramic pots I will put through the dishwasher and put away for next Christmas’s hyacinths.
A black leather handbag. I bought this on holiday in Portugal in May 2009, it was not cheap. A few days ago the zip got stuck and when I tried to fix it, it broke! So much for expensive leather handbags... give me a 6 euro one any day! This has gone in the black sack for the dustmen.
Half a pack of lettuce seeds left over from the summer. They didn’t grow then, so I don’t know why I’ve kept them. I put them on the garden, so it will be interesting to see whether they grow or the birds eat them.
An empty printer ink. I had to change an ink the other day and this empty one will be taken to a shop that recycles empty ones next time I go to town
A small leather bag with Cuba written on it – I think it’s from a keyring. It doesn’t open and isn’t much use to me. I found it in the street a couple of weeks ago and thought it would come in useful, but it hasn’t, so I’ve put it in the charity shop bag.
Another little pile of expired foodstuffs. Some of these date back to 2005! (citric acid, so not something I use much).

That's today's lot - now go to concentrate on finding 10 for tomorrow!

In: a few Christmas presents from friends we've only just been able to see, some post - otherwise haven't been getting anything in.

Out: Presents for said friends and a load of recycling. Slow going, I know, but we'll get there.

A few bits of shopping milk bread etc(not much as trying to declutter freezer as well)

    Out
1 carrier bag of rubbish from sorted drawers

    Pending
1/2 black bag for charity shop

    Question
Should I be keeping my bridesmaid dresses(2) from when I was a bridesmaid at the age of 16,I am now 47?
Both my sisters are still happily married,if that makes any differance.

    • 2 gloopy nailvarnishes binned

Not much progress, but need to declutter Xmas out of the house to carry on - lights/ trees/ decos/ cards may come down tomorrow to enable this to start!

Evening everyone, not much done here today as we've been to the Panto :D

Angela I keep wondering the same thing about my daughters bridesmaids dresses. I've got them up in the loft but as they were our bridesmaids (we got married after the kids were born :p:o) I'm really worried about getting rid of them, I don't want to regret it if I do! I think I'll see if they want to keep them for when they're older and they move out (a few years to go yet !)

    Right, today's INs and OUTs

IN - Electrician to fix the bodged electrics (previous tenants ) in the loft
    Tesco Healthy Living vouchers

OUT - Bag of old baubles and xmas decs (freecycle but if not claimed then they'll go in the bin)

I pledge to make more of an effort to declutter tomorrow :o:D

Angela.. that is very lovely.. I would keep them.. wrapped in tissue paper and put in a pretty box and stored somewhere dry... OR.. scavenge the fabric and make a pretty cushion cover or wall hanging with the fabric so it is on display.. you don't need the dresses as a reminder, memories are in your head.. until you get REALLY (:p) old and batty and then you won't care anyway.. you could make a collage/patchwork cover of both dresses for yourself and your 2 sisters and have one each!
