Welcome Dizzy Lizzie. I've got a similarly large collection of de-clutter type books. Have found that joining this forum & actually making a start on getting rid of things has been really motivating. Good Luck.

Hi and thanks MsHalffull re; those declutter books, I read reviews on Amazon and think oh that's the one that'll do the trick, so I de-clutter in my head only and 'forget' to do it physically lol.
Today I decluttered one drawer and got rid of two carrier bags of stuff from it. Now it's all organised and things in wallets and categories. Those de-clutter books are good for organising once you put them into practice :)
Tomorrow I'm going to declutter another drawer, and do it all in 'babysteps'

  • We had our first ever garage sale on Saturday and Sunday. The good news is that we cleared nearly £200 pounds, the bad news is that about 70% of my stuff is still unsold.!I have never been a clothes shopaholic but have hoarded china, fabric and knitting wool for years. Why did I ever buy 4 different tea services? Anyway, we are going to have a "everything half price " for next Saturday only and after that it all goes to a charity shop or the recycling centre. I am determined that this is the year I do not allow any more "things" into my house, that I will not buy anymore Jaeger wool on eBay, and that I will gradually grow towards the "robe and bowl" attitude. As the poor exchange rate has reduced our UK pensions to nearly a third of what they where worth 5 years ago, serious economies have to be made. Any advice from other money poor but time rich paupers would be appreciated. HELP!!!
  • Not to a third but less a third! No need to start sending famine relief aid quite yet!

Had such a lovely time with my family yesterday & managed to pass on all the bits & bobs that I've been putting aside for them without bringing anything back in - DS came back with a pocket full of money of course. Amazingly NO hangover thanks to drinking highly diluted PIMMS throughout the day. Who knows, I might get something productive done today...

Emptied my letter rack yesterday and either filed, added to paper recycling box or shredded. Also weeded out some old paperwork from files as they were bulging. In the process I found something I'd been looking for and thought I'd thrown out - bonus! A birthday present will be going to nephew today and I'll make sure I don't bring anything back in!

I haven't updated for two weeks, have only really been doing bits and pieces... The best news is that OH has stopped smoking, so we're going to redecorate the living room as it's currently nasty and nicotine stained, I already have plans for all the cushions and lamps I'm going to get! :D Hopefully will have it finished by the next Bank Holiday!

    In

    Six pairs of socks
    Pair of sandals
    Sparkly heart design scarf
Four tops from Mum (too small for her)
    Slippers for OH
Over door hooks for the bedroom (for the mountain of coats/jackets)
    Vacuum bags
Various stuff for decorating - sugar soap, paintbrushes, roller and tray, will hopefully get the paint later today
New kitchen scales, muffin tray, muffin cases and flapjack tray
Eight magazines from sister (will take to work for staff room after reading)

    Pending In

    Exercise DVD ordered online
Currently trying to decide which digital camera to buy with my birthday money - will hopefully order later today

    Out

A jumper and a jacket (too big for me) given to Mum
Eight tops and a pair of trousers given to Mum to take to a car boot sale today
Old kitchen scales (cracked and didn't weigh things properly, so thrown away)
    Two carrier bags of recycling

    Pending Out

Book - need to check if it's worth selling on Amazon, if not it will go into the charity bag

    So far today:

    In:
    new trainers for DS2&3 -

    Out:
DS3's old trainers will go in a bag to go to the shoe shop (they send them overseas for kids to use) DS2's will go to shoe recycling
2 files of old paperwork into the recycling.

Just popping into the garden to declutter some prunnings into the brown bin and stuff to the compost heap and then I shall return to the loft (can't wait to get back in there and I never thought I'd say that!)

    Afternoon all!

We've spent part of the day in the Forest of Dean - so not a lot happening on the decluttering front

    IN:
some hanging basket plants (Winter ones well and truly dead - just taken baskets down ready to re-do when weather is better (now pouring))
    Patio cleaning fluid stuff
Another piece of trellis for honeysuckle. DH has fixed up the first piece but thinks it needs another
    Some doorstops

    OUT:
Green T-Cut from my old car freegled and collected

    DONE:
DS3's bedroom finished being painted bar 3 tiny holes that needed to be filled (need to rubbed down and then painted). Border stuck up. Curtains hung up. Cot assembled and bedding put on (he's 1 on May 21st!!!) Almost ready for him to start having daytime naps in there to get used to it before he moves out of our room for nights...

Lots of business paperwork to sort out for INland Rev this week, so not sure how much I'll get done - hopefully at least something.....

    Evening all,

Good to see lots of newbies (hello!) and hi to all regulars. Hi to any lurkers, it's ok to lurk.

This is the first bit of decluttering I've done since I lost my dear friend. But its 11 things gone. So a start.

    1. Rubbish bits from lounge (bin)
    2. Recycling bits from lounge (paper recycling)
    3. Book (charity shop)
    4. Dog bits (freecycle)
    5. Soft toy (charity shop)
6.7. Make up and toiletries (charity shop)
    8. Frying pan (charity shop)
    9. Plastic box (charity shop)
    10. More dog bits (freecycle)
    11. Even more dog bits (freecycle)

So 11 things. All but 1 recycled, hospice charity shop or freecycle.:A
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
