The Great Declutter Part 2
Comments

Cyclingyorkie - how did DS get on with his driving test? My DD had hers again today and passed at last!! Told her she should re-cycle the 'L' plates, but she had great pleasure in putting them in the bin outside the test centre!!
Still depressed at having DS1s girlfriends stuff here for another week along with the cats, so house not looking as good, but freecycled set of car mats this week.
Will have a think about the garage this weekend but not holding out much hope!
Good luck all and congrats to those who made the 100 things in 10 days challenge.0 -
Evening everyone.
Doesn't it feel great to declutter? All that stuff, gone and most of it hopefully to a better home, more loved and all that. Well done everyone.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

debtdesperado wrote: »Is this harsh? I received a load of presents for an anniversary last weekend. Normally I would have held onto them regardless but as I have the decluttering (and debtfreewannabe) bug at the moment:
In:
Set of cups and saucers
gift token for a very posh shop (not enough to buy anything without putting extra money to it!)
two boxes of chocolates
magazine subscription
coffee table book
Out:
cups and saucers (I don't really like them and have ample) to charity shop
box of chocolates to friend for present
coffee table book listed on amazon
thank you letters for all my presents!
Pending out:
gift token when it's a posh friend's birthday
box of chocolates for mother's day
magazines (once read) to a friend who has cancelled her subscription to the same magazine as her husband lost his job.
Am I a terrible person for doing this so quickly?
No i don't think so. I don't think there is much point holding on to things for the sake of it. A fair few bits my girls got for xmas i have held back for gifts for other girls birthdays. Only stuff they would never use though. My aunt bought me a next perfume for my birthday in May last year but i hadn't the heart to tell her i had gone off it a bit and i had half a bottle left anyway. Made a lovely present for my step mum in the june!Orange Fairy

So.... a quarter of the way through my 100 items - good-o, onwards and upwards...!
So... waved hubby goodbye this morning, he's gone to Belgium to see Ypres and the war graves until tomorrow night, thus giving me a bit of breathing space and chance to declutter.
To continue my list....
26) 5 VHS video tapes - picked up by Freegler
27) Wooden fish tank stand - I've been using it as craft storage for a couple of years but now I've downsized my craft stuff I don't need it any more. Picked up by Freegler
28) Book - Pride and Prejudice, hubby's finished reading it - off to charity shop
29) Cat face shaped car sunshade. Wasn't very successful in our car. Off to charity shop
30) Cleared out another cupboard in the sideboard today and found a load of greetings cards that I'm going to put in the recycling bag.
31) Old receipts/letters/junk that I was keeping for some reason. Shredding and recycling bag.
32) Peg bag that my mum gave me for my charity tombola. I can't wait until the summer to get it out of the house, so I'll put it in the charity shop bag.
33) DVDs given away free in the Daily Mail. These were picked up by a Freegler.
That's it for today's haul (actually it's yesterday's now, because I've just seen the time: 00.30 on Saturday!). So I'll get some sleep and then get another run at it before baby grandson arrives lunchtime...Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

I haven't reported in for several days but things are happening again! Furniture recycling came Tuesday and took away a double bed. Yes it will have to be replaced but it was way too soft for me and it is good to have it out of the way whilst I am slowly decorating our bedroom. (3 bed semi not much room to spare - except this thread is helping me to slowly change that!):)
As yesterday was lovely and we had had a few dry days I decided to cut the grass after work (finished lunchtime). Well grass got cut but best of all I had a bonfire and burnt the LARGE pile of confidential papers that I had piled up during earlier declutters. As it was going so well and I had checked that no neigbours had washing out, I also burnt a lot of twiggy garden stuff that would have taken years to compost. Then I spied an old broken cupboard that had been under the carport for ages (waiting to go to the tip) so that went on the fire too. I was out there 3 hours had a great time, got rid of several years paperwork and the garden looks much better.:)
A confession, I have never had a bonfire before. I grew up in a smokeless area and when we moved here OH always took over if I ever mentioned a fire (but not with most of the other chores I have suggested). Anyway job done, :ja happy me and I promise not to repeat the fire for a long time cos they are nuisance to other folks.
Just wanted to add my thanks and congratulations to all. I don't post very often but I do read the thread regularly, it keeps me motivated, this is going to be a whole year job for me (and many others I guess) imagine how we will feel after a year of 'baby steps'.
