Thanks, I'm told of the first one I'm the former person (very good at identifying the problems not so good at telling people what my solutions might be, lol). And never never be fooled in to thinking I sound knowledgeable I passed my last set of professional exams because it was open book exams and I could waffle about the given topic so convincingly that the examiner got confused and just gave me a pass mark so he didnt have to sit through it again. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Congrats on being featured in the weekly email! Off the back of that I'd like to join too please! Its an ethos I've been trying to stick to anyway, but having a whole thread full of people doing the same thing would be great motivation.
We're getting married this year and buying a house so we can finally live just the two of us after we're married, so every penny is important. Add to that I sorted out my ironing pile from the 'ironing room' that exists here at my mum and dads, and my pile reached my waist, and thats with a full wardrobe already - no one needs this many clothes!!!
I have a major book problem as well, I have over 400 unread fiction books, literally thousands of read ones, and it is a nagging concern of mine how they are ever going to fit into any house we buy. I've gradually been clearing out over the last few years, but fiction books sell so poorly I just end up keeping them rather than throwing them away.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Thanks for this thread.
I read the first few posts, got the bag of 'to be ebayed stuff' out of the cupboard, and took the photos! While they were uploading to the computer I skipped to the end of the thread, and once I have 'sent' this message I am going to open Turbo Lister and create a few basic listings ready to go later.
Thanks again, just the kick start I needed.
PS - I am currently avoiding toiletry buying until current stocks are depleted too. I was amazed at how much I had got once I put it all in one place!!0 -
Yay, more people! I didn't notice we were in the weekly email.
Dinah - wow, that's some library. Have you tried selling books on Green Metropolis? You get a set price for them then. I don't think they sell that quickly though. Otherwise, is there any way you could swap them for something you need? I'm going to a swapping event soon where you can trade books, clothes and accessories, so I'm hoping to get rid and my books and get something I need instead e.g. a new bag. I keep seeing online swapping sites mentioned - might be worth looking into them.
y5d - scary about the toiletries, isn't it? I don't even have that much compared to most people and it's still enough to last almost a whole year!0 -
I just had a sort out of my toiletry box - there are five part used conditioners, must stop buying shampoo and conditioners which match then starting a new conditioner when the shampoo runs out! That said I don't actually have as much stuff as I thought, the bottom of the box had my spare hair dryer and curling tongs in it.It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Hi all,
All ebay tat now posted. I have actually lost a moisturised (I cant remember where I put it and I love that one!!) and have used up another shower gel. Sorted out some toiletries to take to the hotel tonight (we are away for hubby's bday) and not use theirs or relieve the hotel of them cos I need to use what I've got not acquire more! May not be around much the next few days due to being away but will try to keep up with this thread when at my dads house.

This sounds like a good challenge. I've already signed up to the spend no more than £100 this year on clothes, which should cover any essentials. This would be a good way to rein in spending on other areas too! :j0

Hi everyone,
I would like to join too.
Just picked up on this thread and think it will help me to think more about all my stuff and other places to off-load it!!
I've been downsizing/sorting out/e-baying/charity shop giving etc for over four years now and it seems to get worse!
The book situation is certainly no better although I have started making a list of those I'd like for birthdays etc and not buying any just like others have mentioned but selling them is difficult because we all seem to buy the same!
One book went for £50 on Amazon before Xmas but it was an out of print Vegetarian cook book-I was amazed!
My solution now is to take them to book group meetings to give away.
I am also a mad arty/crafty/sewing person so always buy far too much of that stuff so I'm now going through it all to see just how much I can use in the next 20+ years and try selling the least favourites of the kits!
I'm also not buying any toileteries, make-up, vitamin pills etc until I actually run out!
That £30+ on my Boots card will have to wait to be spent!
Last but by no means least STOP buying any more chocolate or biscuits or anything for the FULL freezer! If the snow had stayed for a month I might have cracked this one!
I know I haven't mentioned clothes but I daren't sell anymore as this year is THE year for losing 3 stone and I hope to use some of those jeans etc hanging in the spare wardrobe.
Hope I haven't bored you all silly but it's so great to find other people in similar situation to me!
