Cash from Baking??

I use organic, fairtrade and locally produced ingredients only. I used to use the cheapest products but feel that my customers deserve the best and I have seen an improvement in taste.
When you work out the price per cake or cupcake, it doesn't work out that much more expensive to use high quality ingredients.
I find it's the butter that puts the prices up but is the main difference in taste also.
As you say, if you want a better tasting cupcake you HAVE to use the better ingredients!0 -
Sorry to barge into this thread but I was wondering if you knowledgeable people could help me out on a couple of questions please? I'd like to set up a stall at my niece's summer fete & was wondering:
1. do I need a hygiene certificate & PLI for this sort of selling?
2. If I didn't actually cook anything, but reassembled from various ingredients (eg muffin mix in a bag), would that still require the same certificates & PLI?
TIA
Liz
I have a feeling you would need PLI either way. You don't necessarily need a hygiene certificate but you would probably need your kitchen approved. I was recently approved and she was happy that I didn't need one after asking me lots of related questions!
I'm sure someone will be along to give you a more definite answer soon!0 -
Thanks for all your replies to my ingrediant question.
Can I ask a few more questions
1, Where do I start selling? Family and friends are happy to taste my baking but not sure they would pay!??
2, How do I get my kitchen passed?
3, I did my hygiene certificate online is the acceptable?
4, What insurance do I need?
Sorry there are a few questions but after years of failed business attempts I have decided to stick with what I know and try and make a go of selling cakes. I was thinking of just doing cupcakes but feel that there is only a small market for these, the other cakes I make are brownies, choc fudge cake, victoria sponge and carrot cake etc. I hope there is a market for these type of cakes, what do you sell?
Thank you so much I love reading these posts and you all have fab creations0 -
