Cash from Baking??

Hi All!
I really hope you don't mind me crashing your thread, I've been reading through it and joined MSE especially to join in as I'm so inpsired by some of you guys! The quality of some of the cakes you're producing and the websites etc are so impressive I really hope to be as good one day!
I've been hoping to start my own baking business for a while. I've been baking for some time but I'm new to decoration and have just started a college course to help with this!
I was hoping for some advice on the following:
- Whether any of you have looked into the possibility of running a national web based baking business and whether there are couriers that will deliver cupcakes for a decent cost?
- a good buttercream recipe!! (mine always seems to be quite grainy??)
Thank you and look forward to chatting with you all going forward! x0 -
thanks for that, looks interesting. ive seen a recipe using egg whites-italian meringue icing. the mixture doesnt get cooked so ever so slightly worried about using raw egg whites!
at college we were told that we could no longer use raw egg whites to make royal icing because of the risk of salmonella, especially if you are selling your products, you can buy powdered egg white called albumen/merrywhite. you get the same results without the risk.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0 -

I really cream up my butter/marg until its really pale and smooth, then I add in my sieved icing sugar with a fork at first and then I whisk it until I get a good consistency and its shiny.

Hi
Please would you mind having a look at my website which I have finished ? I have just started a website to promote my cupcake business, I am so excited as I have done it myself and I'm not very computer savvy !!!! Any comments and tips are very welcome. I have no idea what meta tags are etc ? I have also not added the fact that I have been awarded 5 out of 5 for Scores on the Doors, by my local council. What page do you think it would be best on ?
Many thanks,
Bek x
Welcome to Cupbakes
Hi
You're website looks good but I do have one suggestion, there is a lot of writing and on the price page, the prices are just at the end of the writing and it took me a minute to find them as they don't stand out. Not everybody will read all the writing, they just want to know the price. I would keep the text, maybe just put the prices on a new line and maybe in a different colour or bold?
Your cupcakes are fab, I love the golf course cupcakes! Think happy & you'll be happy

Absolutely exhausted today but I'm pleased to report the farmers' market went well yesterday - 138 cupcakes sold & only 10 brought home! (which were immediately 'reserved' by the OH of course :P)
Babyplum, your cakes are AMAZING! I love love love the Finding Nemo one (is it wrong that I'm 26 & would be perfectly happy having that for my birthday cake?)
With regards to food hygiene courses, the online one I did through Virtual College is listed on the RSPH website & my EHO officer was perfectly happy with it.Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00 -
Right, I'm confused.....
What paper cases do you ladies use to bake your CupCakes in? So far, googleing has brought up loads of different case sizes *rollseyes*What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -

Ah thank you so much! The Nemo cake was so much fun to make, i loved it! And no i don't think its wrong that at 26 you would like that for your own cake. I would too and i'm 31!!!
I made that one at the beginning of August and its by far the most elaborate cake i have made. God, when i think how long all the bits took me to make i would have to charge a fortune for a cake like that! lol
I'm sure i will get quicker with more practice though.
So pleased the farmers market went well. Your stall looks SO fab!!! I love your cake stands and bunting.... and cupcakes of course.
I have started trying to collect unusual cakestands. I bought a set of 2 'cooling racks' today which are in the shape of flowers. One is pink and one is green and they are very unusual. I intend to use them as little stands for cupcakes.
I also got myself a proper muffin/cupcake tin today. Found one in Dunelm Mill for just £4.99.I also got some little flower and heart shaped sugarcraft cutters and a childrens silicone cake mould in the shape of a cupcake i thought was cute too.
Sorry am totally hijacking this thread now.I'm FINALLY debt free! DFW Long Hauler #227LBM - Jan 2006  March 2006 -£26,725  Apr 2015 - £0!!! :jBaby boy born 1/8/08 Baby girl born 28/6/120 -

Mini cases
Small cupcake cases
Cupcake/muffin cases
Large muffin cases
I presume i need cupcake/muffin cases but then they also have some which are 'deep'.
