Can't help with your questions Babyplum, but just wanted to say that your cakes are fantastic. If the Pingu one was your first attempt then you obviously have a natural talent for it! :T

Hello everyone!
Hope you don't mind me jumping in here!
Ooh quick question too. How do you get your cupcakes to hold their shapes so well? is it to do with the cases you use or the bun tray? The cupcakes i make usually splay out quite a lot ifkwim and this doesn't look very neat or proffesional.
Hi, I never have a problem and I use a proper cupcake tray/tin so they are deeper and hold the cupcake cases in. If you use a shallower fairy cake tin/try then they will splay out. I fill my cases 3/4 full and they usually come out just right. Hope that helps0 -

Hello everyone!
I'm a bit worried about making these 3 cake orders from colleagues as they will be paying me for them (although very little more than the cost of ingredients and supplies) and i obviously haven't done any of the official stuff yet! Eek!
If people are paying for your cakes get yourself registered through HMRC ASAP, you only need a jealous work collegue to report you an you are in trouble beofre you start.
Register now and you have plenty of time before end of year, keep all your receipts for ingredients, equipment etc.
Also if you are selling the cakes, get public liability insurance!
If you get tax credits don't forget to inform them you are doing self employment work to!0 -
Hello everyone!
I live in a small rented house with a tiny kitchen, not much storage space, 1 sink, a cat, a child, a washing machine, etc. I just can't see it being passed. I have thought about maybe using my parents house which is very close by but i'm not even sure this would be possible?!
If you are in a rented house you MUST ask the landlord for his permission, having a business registered to the house may go against his mortgage if he has a buy to let mortgage and may affect any household insurance he has as a landlord.0 -

Nobody has paid me yet. I have only just taken my 1st definite order for a halloween cake. This has only really come about in the last week so i haven't had time to do anything official yet. Thats why i came on here, to read up and get advice about what i should be doing.
A relative makes cakes for family and friends (she made a cake for my 30th) and had done for years. I'm pretty sure she has never done any of the official stuff so i don't think its unsual to do it for people you know and not register as a business or anything.
However i am planning to get myself registered and do everything i need to.
Thanks for the advice.I'm FINALLY debt free! DFW Long Hauler #227LBM - Jan 2006  March 2006 -£26,725  Apr 2015 - £0!!! :jBaby boy born 1/8/08 Baby girl born 28/6/120 -
