Cash from Baking??

i didnt see it but know that a lot of companies are charging that, i would charge 50p at the fundraiser if you are decorating with sparkles and flowers. i also do cupcakes where i scoop out a bit of sponge from the centre of the top, fill with butter icing and jam then cut out shaped fondant icing and cover it over. You could aslo do cup cake wrappers from doileys and make them look really special or just use shiny good quality wrapping paper,

Thanks for that link!
i made some for my daughters birthday party with bright pink swirly buttercream icing with mini star sprinkles and everyone thought id spent a fortune on them! lol Now i see why! i thought £1 each was expensive when i heard people talk about that.. shows how long it is since i bought cakes off someone else!
maybe cake baking isnt the way to go for me... id underprice myself too much:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
did 100 for wedding - cost was about £10-£15 with hand made roses and daisies and still made a healthy profit but the time factor for so many just didnt seem to make it worth it, but if thats what everybody wants i'll be putting prices up. Have an order for 60 this weekend and am dreading it - will start on the flowers and bits and pieces tomorrorwskintbint x

most websites charge around £2 to £2.50 for cupcakes, and then extra for delivery, they must be making money i guess people are happy to pay it? they also charge £1 for the teeeeeeeeeny tiiiiiiiny minature cupcakes. i made some of those and priced them and they cost me 4p each to make!!
i'm so nervous about the guy coming tomorrow, im worried in case he says no and my whole plan falls flat on its face. and then if he says yes then its down to me to find the cash for a very cheap car to make the whole thing happen which is also going to be tricky!0 -

Im hope it all goes well tomorrow, im sure it will. Do you have any family or friends who would be willing to run you about for a while if you offered them petrol money, just until you can save enough to get a car? how much were you thinking of charging for delivery? I know someone who charges £5 within a 20 mile radius.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0 -
you'll be fine stephy, i was the same! but be aware they limit you to the amount they feel your kitchen can cope with - i am limited to 4-5 cakes a week (if i could get that many orders everyweek i'd be laughing). have contacted a local farmers market and a wedding fair to see if i can get a stall at them and really get this moving now. Cupcakes are unbelievable but its not until you have lots at once to decorate you realise just how long it takes.
let us know how you get on tomorrow - good luck

yeah i have heard that... but would they know if you did more?? the guy at my council was soooo relaxed he was like "yeah well we just need to check u have a sink really its totally low risk" so obviously i'm going to make my kitchen spotless, and the bathroom in case he wants to check the sink in there. make sure there is anti bacterical hand soap at each sink, make sure i have cleaning products to show him, was thinkin of "borrowin" a few food labels from work, clean the fridge and oven. anythin else??? except maybe bake cupcakes to win him over??
well i really want to do the markets as there are alot in liverpool and some are about £2 to set up but i need a carall i want is a £300 skip that drives! just so i can get to the markets. so my plan for now if all goes well is get my website going which i'm already working on, put leaflets, business cards in my local shops, and see if i can get some orders just to raise money for the car. i'll still have to work at the restaurant so will have money to live on from that.
the farmers markets are definitely good because people are willing to pay so much more for stuff that is local.
i'm lucky with the cupcakes i have a very arty partner and he's dying to get going with my piping bag!! we'll see how long that lasts though!0 -

Ive just completed level 1 sugarcraft and as part of my portfolio I had to make a gateaux, we had to do a cost sheet and were told to charge £5.80 an hour for labour, (min wage) my cake cost £36..... so maybe charging £2 isnt bad because you do need to incorporate your working hours, after all youre not doing it for nothing.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0 -
i wouldnt worry too much about individual projects as such as when you see the prices of wedding/celebration cakes, even doing them from home works out at a decent hourly rate, which kind of compensates and i'm sure if you were doing it from home you would have had other things on the go even if it was the washing and ironing!skintbint x

Hi ladies
Stephy, hope everything goes okay with the EHO
I've got three cake orders for this month :j I'm only charging cost because I need the experience and also i'm not registered as self employed yet.
I'm thinking of getting a photobook printed with my best cakes/cupcakes to show potential clients? Has anybody else done that? How much did you pay?
I can't wait to start my course so I can learn more things, I am so limited as to what I can do at the moment.
I think i'm going to contact my landlord today and check it's okay with him to do the business then get the EHO in as soon as possible then i'll know whether I can do it or not. No point putting lots of effort into it if I can't.
I think i'm going to start a blog about me setting up my business, might be interesting to read it back in a few years if it takes off. I'll put it on my profile in case anybody wants to read it.
Off to make some mini cupcakes for a lady I teach touch typing to:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies
