I just thought of a brilliant name for my business and was amazed to find that the URL hadn't been bought already :D

Just need to write my website now and EHO to come and to get my food certificate done and then I can start :D  just a bit to do.

Oh I've called my Business CaratCake. Went through sooooooooooo many names. I understand how you are struggling. What's your first and last name? We might be able to help.
What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..

Anyway here is my most recent cake I made for my friends husband who is a Pink Floyd fan. I can't begin to tell you what a nightmare the black fondant was to use:mad:

Stardrops that cake is fab! How did you do the woodgrain effect?

It's funny you should mention the black sugarpaste as I've just come on to put a pic of a cake I've made for a friend's son (the lettering was straight before being prodded by enthusiastic party goers :D)

Black sugarpaste truly is the work of the devil. If I as much as breathed near it, it marked/tore/cracked. And it tastes really, really nasty :D.

maisy_daisy - that cake is fab:j You're so right about the black sugar paste, vile stuff to work with:mad: I had to put the cake in the airing cupdoard to dry the paste for a couple of hours before I could even attempt to smooth it! Worst thing is my niece has just asked me to do a Playstation 3 cake which means more black sugar paste:mad: lol

The woodgrain effect was done using an impression mat which I bought from Ebay. I added the nail marks myself with a pointy tool (technical term lol) I then painted it using paste colour mixed with vodka and a 3" paintbrush!

Oh have fun with that one :rotfl:! I've been asked to do a make up bag cake for an 11 year old, so am looking forward to working with pretty sparkly pastels, rather than the sticky black paste of doom :p.

I'd much rather make a make up bag! I made this one for my niece and she loved it!

    Hey all,

If it's ok i'm going to hop aboard??:j

It's going to take me a while to wade through the whole thread - kids, work, life, baking and everything else to get in the way!!!!

I find myself in a similar situation to some whereby i've been baking for friends family etc and now feel it would be a missed opportunity not to move it onto a business but it scares the heck out of me!!

Would be so appreciative of any advice about taking the leap and would be so good to pair up with someone at the same kinda stage as me ;)

    xx
