I was at a large town centre today, and it was dead!

I was actually shocked at how quiet it was - for a boxing day sale and a saturday.

this recovery is a long way off. yeah, some fools went nuts before xmas, but now reality has hit.

    Lots of places were busy

Overall people will probably have spent more this year than ever before

Then next year will lose their jobs and default on their credit cards.....

Was at an average sized town centre today at lunch time. it was busy but not really any busier than a normal Saturday. Went to Next to see why people had been queuing fron 3am in some centres. Whilst it was busy there were no queues to pay which was a big surprise. Bought a few things at half price and under. Will be taking a couple of things I bought back before the sales at full prices as I now have bought them for half the price.

Also watched Jeff Randell's christmas special which had Philip Green on there. Got to admit he was not too festive about the year ahead.

People were apparently going mad for "bargain" £200+ handbags etc. Bargain as they had been reduced 40%. Stock of 20 of these handbangs apparently sold out in less than an hour.

Designer clothes are supposed to have done well, with one person on the local news over the moon as they had picked up 2 pairs of jeans for £90 and normally they would be £120 each.

Seems silly money is still well and truly around. And seems its the expensive designer type clothes and accessories shops that have done well today.

Silly. People fall for this gag every year. What they don't know is that if they'd gone there in Nov, Oct, Sep or even before, the jeans would have only been £90 a-piece then anyway, and only went up to £120 in December. It's the oldest retail trick in the book. There are no such thing as 'sales' in retail for non-perishable stuff.

Really? I have bought many stuff in the sale which have been 40% off the full ticket price of Oct/ Nov etc. Bought my brother a jumper in Oct for £30 which was being flogged today at £15 and the kids coats which cost £28 were being sold in next for £12 today.

Boxing day is for spending time with family and friends and relaxing. Why people voluntarily return to crowded shopping centres to buy stuff they dont really need is beyond me. This consumerist society we have become just sickens me. Seems like there is now only one day of Christmas.
