Correct. Do enlighten me.0 -
To the OP, no need to report it. If you do then it will be held as an open claim until time barred, this will affect your premium. Details were exhanged and a course of action agreed, ie no further action.mountainofdebt wrote: »I accidently reversed into a car tonight.
Spoke to the driver of the other car and he was happy that there was no damage to his car and he drove off - we didn't even exchange details.
So do I need to inform my insurers? I'm concerned that he will decide at some point in the future that there was damage and if I don't mention it to my insurers it will come back to bite me on the bum
How can he "come back" when he has no details?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I just thought I would let you know I phoned my insurers and asked their advice.
They basically said it was up to me how I wanted to poceed - they could record the details and close the case immediately or not bother record the details - if I chose the later then in the event of other driver making a mental note of registration number and deciding later on to make a claim and their insurers would contact mine (apparently the car registration is recorded on the insurers database) and I would have to confirm the accident details, so I've chosen not to have officially recorded.
In any event my conscious is clear.2014 Target;

To the OP,
I wouldn't report it, gentlemans agreement has been reached that it will go no further. Just trust them that it won't be reported.
If he does claim. plead innocence of the incident
"What incident? I didn't hit anyone, I didn't give anyone my details."
"What is he saying I did?"
"LOL how can he say we talked about it and then we didn't even exchange details? He's having a laugh"
In short forget about it.0 -
you hit the car, the persons who car you hit was happy do not report it to the insurance company, if you do they will keep the claim open for 12 months and suspend your no claims bonus, that is fine if you already have 5 years NCB but if you only have 1, 2, 3, or 4 then next years premium you wont be able to claim the extra year.
I know this from experience, i reported to my insurers i had another personthey didnt want to claim, my insurer held back the NCB i earned that year saying it is in case the third party changes there mind they have 12 months to make it know, so my NCB went 2 years NCB, next year 2years NCB, following year 4 Years NCBEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Made no difference to my premium.
why would it have made any difference to your premium?? you were the person that was hit, but it would have effected the other persons premiumEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

how is he going to report, if the person agreed its fine no problem its highly unlikely that he took the OP reg number or any details, whats he going to tell his insurer if he changes his mind,....."err a car hit me can i make a claim!!!", the insurance company is likely to tell him to go away politelyEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
