Ummm....let's start with the good news: I've used up a small talc, 3 mag freebie sachets of moisturisers and a travel size shower gel
but ... I didn't have any more moisturizer (except some icky retro cold cream - no good on my face) so I went & bought a day & a night firming moisturizer from Boots but fell into Bootser mode & ended up with 2 packs of wipes & two gwps as well (did use £10 of No 7 vouchers & a 250 point coupon though).... I'll get my coat

It usually sits on the desk for use in the morning but I think it may have gotten knocked into the bin
I mentioned this on my own diary thread and one of the lovely folk from there is posting one to me! I bought her a hatbox before Christmas and she doesn't use the body butters! :j It has saved me as otherwise I was going to buy with points, but my local store was sold out....!
That is so sweet!!! :AAnyway, last week I folded up a metal tube of toothpaste from the bottom that I would formerly have chucked as finished. I was even so sad as to put a mini-bulldog clip on it to hold it in place. I have used that paste twice a day for the past week and there's still a day or so left (and even more if |I was really sad and cut it open). I am going to hide her new toothpaste purchases next time. We are in this together from now on!
I keep bulldog clips and put them on the ends of tubes when I cut them open to keep them sealed. Sometimes there can be a week's worth of product there and it's best not to let the air get at it.I have to second this (((sales addict))))
im wondering ( and you dont have to answer this if you dont want)whether you "go shopping" to get out of the house?I only say this as I know my mum does. Be it that shes had words with dad, or hes asleep ( does funny shifts) or quite frankly shes bored and honestly doesn't know what else to do with herself.
If you werent so skint- Id suggest using the money to join a gym. Its a lovely pamper treat to excercise, plus theres swimming, jacuzzi, sauna -even sunbewds in mine ( i dont use them, but i know others do)
As a money-saving alternative- Id suggest a pedometer. My pru fitbug says 12000 is a good day. You could aim for that? It definitely helps with motivation.
OK did quite well today, bought the revitalift and 4 coconut conditioners from sains.
Did go to a boot sale and it was mainly traders- they had lipsticks foir £1 each that i prob would have bought before even though i dont use it often. so resisted that! :T
I have to say the offers on toiletries seem to not be abating- all supermarkets have had good deals- Ive not felt the need to buy extra deoderants/shower gel, even though we only have 1x full shower gel in stores each. However, Ill use some of the crap hotel minis as shower gel too. I know these offers will be on all year long- looks like a competitive market out there
Well done to everyone sticking with it. I feel February being much more focused. Im now clear on what we use, how much, how often something needs to be replaced. In terms of hair styling products- only one thing in the whole month ( curl creme) has been finished.|A shower gel for me alone lasts just under 2 weeks. Conditioner for us both, a week. Shampoo- at least 2 weeks. Handwash- at least a month. Body butter - WHO KNOWS!
?
Eeek, a shower gel lasts me a month or more!!!! Am I a minger?
Totally agree on the shopping thing. Shopping seems to have become almost a hobby in the last few years! Some of my friends spend EVERY Saturday in town shopping, whereas I stay away from it as I work in the city centre so need a break from it at weekends. :rotfl:
I also agree with you on the toiletry offers, they seem to be getting more and more desperate. I did have a moment of weakness earlier, added 3 hemp body butters to a virtual basket on the BS website (3for2 and 15% off, OMG) but then thought better of it and closed the page!!! Two months ago I would have bought them without hesitation. This is progress! £12.50 is now going into the savings pot. :jGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Thanks, I will look out for it next time I'm in.
I pay £1.49 for a 50ml tube from Savers but still it all adds up. But it's the one toiletries spend I don't feel any guilt about, because I do actually need it AND use it up very quickly!0 -

looked at flights yesterday(sad I know as he is on the plane as I write but missing him already!!!!) and they are really strange prices,£206 return or £1389 single on one site and similar on others in that returns cheaper than 1 way!!!(son paid £350 return so he will be back at Christmas but would have had to pay £770 1 way! )anyone explain that?????
It's a quirk of air tickets, I once bought a return and didn't use the return flight as it was cheaper than a single. Crazy really!!!Jewelleryfan wrote: »Hi Everyone
I havent been around for the last few weeks, ive been crazy busy
Last week i completed on my first flat, so every weekend and most evenings im now in DIY shops or hunting for carpets and curtains :rotfl: I suppose the upside is (A) i dont have the money to spend on toileties and (B) dont have the time! Add in a full time job and studying for my degree im quite stressed at the moment, although another upside to that is ive lost about half a stone in last few months
Anyway, due to being so hectic i have seriously lost track of my mission and have only managed to use a lip salve and an eye make-up remover:o
I'm really going to try harder and use more products.
January - total spend on toiletries = £0.00 :j
Just to add that ive nearly finished my mascara, but instead of buying another one im going to use one that i already have, i have about 5 to use up!
OMG well done!!
So all I need to do to stop buying toiletries AND lose weight is buy a house... Eureka!!!!!!!! :j:jGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Well, I went into Boots AND Lush this afternoon and came out empty handed :T I might have been tempted though, if Lush had had the new bath melt or the bublegum lip scrub
, but they only had the other two, which taste of chocolate, and I hate choc flavour lip stuff (except S&G sexymother gloss, but that's more Terrys choc orange).
All I've bought i the last couple of days is some cotton wool pads which I'd ran out of. :T
Salesaddict, you CAN do this. You've already acknowledged it's a problem AND you want to stop - that's the most important thing.0 -
Are any of you having more showers a day just to get rid of stuff:rotfl:
No, just my usual - once a week whether I need it or not. :rotfl:chickywiggle wrote: »i think it does smell lovely, but i would never pay their prices. With regard to ebaying my unopened purchases. I don't have anything unopened, that's part of my thing, I open it literally as I walk out of the shop.
Yes, I know that is too weird but its true. I also hate paypal with a passion (long story) and I believe you can't ebay without a paypal account? I also dislike ebay and never shop on there, irrational I know, but there it is.
I shop when I'm bored, happy, sad , stressed. I think you know what I am getting at. I need to find a replacement activity. I think I have been a shopaholic since I was a teenager but it has got worse with age. So I don't think it is going to be easy for me to just change overnight. But I so want to stop.
saleaddict, that is a very thoughtful post, thank you. I hope you do manage to get it under control and I am happy to be your weight loss buddy too (can't remember who else replied to you about that). Does your OH know you buy so much?
I have pampered myself again tonight - shower, scrub, face mask, defuzz, hair mask, body butter (have still got a TINY bit left in the tub aaargh) and socks on!I love this challenge.

And that is half the battle. So - is it extremes of emotion that trigger you to shop do you think? If so, then you need to find a displacement activity when those emotions strike that takes the place of, or distracts you from, shopping. How about thinking of something that you enjoy, that is cheap or better still free, that when you successfully resist the urge to hit the shops you can reward yourself with? That way you still have some pleasure as a trade off, but without running yourself into financial difficulties.
I really hope we don't come across as nagging or lecturing you. I think that the huge tub of the Boots own brand cream is a little under £3 - I know that the tubes were 99p just before christmas. OH tells me that it's not quite the same as E45, it doesn't absorb into the skin quite as quickly, but he finds it fine. Probably for the best for the time being though - why not work out a cash budget for what you NEED for the week ahead, take that amount out only, and then give the card back to him each time - that way you only have enough money for what is needed and can't splurge on the pretty stuff. That's only papering over the cracks though - you do still need to work out why. Do any of the suggestions we have made ring true with you? Can you think of anything else that gives you the same sort of buzz you get from shopping?

Great post EssexHebridean. :T salesaddict - we are all here for you anytime you need a friendly ear.
I now have £89.54 in my savings pot - all from stuff I've used up and times when I've been seriously tempted to buy toiletries. That's just from January!!!! I know it's just moving money from one account to another, but it's money that I wouldn't have if I'd replaced things unnecessarily or given into temptation all those times. So I am thrilled. Seeing my little pot increase in value has given me an extra morale boost which buying ever more toiletries could not, and eBaying stuff like my S&G hatbox (which still has no bids yet grrr :rotfl:) has stopped me wanting to waste the money by buying new stuff!

Ditto, i started bootsing as almost a hobby, due to different problems at home etc and it was actally a replacement to my previous obsessive type behaviour, which was cleaning and baking. The baking was making Dh and I put weight on so i now limit it to once a week, but now that ive tried to curb the bootsing i am starting up with the cleaning again:eek::D, but not quite as much as before, so im spreading it around a bit so to speak.
